The 2024 World Poker Tour Prime Gold Coast Championship $2,000 AUD ($1,300 USD) buy-in no-limit hold’em event drew 1,395 entries to The Star Gold Coast over three starting flights, generating AU$2,511,000 (US$1,611,811) prize pool. Following over five days of intense action, Lorenz Schöllhorn took home his maiden live title and a whopping  $257,729 in top prize money.  Schöllhorn finally defeated Colombia’s Andres Vasquez (second for AU$ 267,615). In addition to the top prize, Schöllhorn also earned a $10,400 seat for the WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas this year.

2024 WPT Prime Gold Coast Championship Final Table Recap

The top 175 finishers shared the prize pool, with the top three among them securing six-figure USD payouts. Schöllhorn held the chip lead when the final table began. He extended his lead by busting Martin Ward (9th) in the first hand at the table. Ward was followed by Marco Perri in 8th and Dylan Desmarchelier in 7th place. Later, we lost Rikiya Jibiki whose A-10 failed to beat Endersby’s  jacks. The next player to fall was Chin Yaw Chan who ran his Jd 10 into pocket queens of Andres Vasquez.

Schöllhorn scored his second knockout when he picked up pocket tens against the Q-10 of Michael Fraser, who had shoved during the four-handed play. Schöllhorn’s pair held up, busting Fraser ($95,069) in 4th place. His next victim was Australia’s Travis Endersby whose Ks 8c lost to Schöllhorn’s pocket fives. The latter rivered a full house with fives and nines to bust Endersby (3rd – $127,173).

Schöllhorn began the heeds-up with more than a 2:1 chip lead over Colombia’s Andres Vasquez and stayed ahead by the time the final hand of the tournament arrived. With blinds of 250,000-500,000 and a big blind ante of 500,000, Vasquez raised to 1,250,000 with Jh Js and Schöllhorn defended his big blind with Kd Jd. The flop brought 10c 8d 5d. Schöllhorn checked and Vasquez bet 1,650,000. Schöllhorn check-raised to 4,800,000, forcing Vasquez to move all-in. Schöllhorn called with his flush draw. The turn 9c changed nothing, but the river 9d gave Schöllhorn a winning flush and the victory in the biggest WPT Prime Event in the Asia-Pacific region. Vasquez had to settle for AU$267,615 as the runner-up, which happens to be his career’s largest live tournament score.
