How to read Poker News

The tournament year has a shape. It starts in January with the high-roller stops in the Bahamas and Australia, swings through the European Poker Tour spring legs, and then everything bends towards Las Vegas, where the World Series of Poker has run at the Horseshoe and Paris casinos since the series left the Rio after 2021. From late May to mid-July the WSOP awards close to a hundred bracelets, and the Main Event alone decides more of the year's headlines than any other week. The autumn belongs to the WSOP Circuit, the World Poker Tour's championship events and the Triton Super High Roller Series, which moves between Cyprus, Montenegro, Jeju and other resort venues.

Reports on this desk follow that calendar. A result piece names the event, the buy-in, the field and the payout when those figures are published by the organiser, and says plainly when they are not. Where a final table had a story (a comeback from a short stack, a record field, a second bracelet in one summer), the report tells it with the hands that decided it, not with adjectives.

The other half of poker news happens away from the felt. Online poker in the United States is legal and regulated state by state, and the shared player pools matter as much as the laws themselves: a site that can seat players from Nevada, New Jersey, Delaware and Michigan at one table runs bigger tournaments than a single-state room. When a state joins or leaves those compacts, the change shows up in guarantees and traffic within months. Acquisitions matter too. Training sites, streaming outfits and tours change hands, and the new owner usually decides what the product becomes.

You will also find obituaries and retrospectives here, because the game's institutions were built by people. Tournament directors wrote the rules that every floor still applies, and founders of the first online rooms decided how millions of people would learn the game. Those stories get the same treatment as a final table: dates, places and what changed because of them.

Poker News: questions

Where is the World Series of Poker held?

Since 2022 the WSOP has been held at the Horseshoe Las Vegas and Paris Las Vegas resorts on the Strip, after many years at the Rio. The summer series runs from late May into July, with the Main Event at the end.

Which poker tours run outside the WSOP?

The World Poker Tour, the European Poker Tour (run by PokerStars), the Triton Super High Roller Series, the WSOP Circuit and a range of regional tours. Each has its own schedule, buy-in levels and rankings.

Is online poker legal in the United States?

It depends on the state. A handful of states license and regulate online poker, and some of them share player pools through an interstate agreement. In most states real-money online poker has no specific license framework.

How are tournament payouts reported?

Organisers publish the field size, prize pool and payouts for each event, and results databases such as The Hendon Mob record them per player. Reports here use those published figures and note when a deal changed the final numbers.
