Highlights: Exciting Main Event Moments and Victories From 2024 APT Jeju Festival

 The 2024 APT Jeju festival is running full steam. Following six days of action, the series has already crossed its halfway mark with some thrilling moments and big wins. The main event of the ongoing series has been the key highlight. Day 1A of the KRW 2 Billion guaranteed main event saw 285 entries and only 95 survived with China’s Chao Xi ending up as the chip leader with  389,200. USA’s Tian Ke (333,500), and China’s Tian Ke (326,100) rounded out the top three stacks.

The second of the four starting flights drew in 289 entries and 130 players bagged up chips to progress. Japan’s Norihide Tanaka topped the chip counts with a stack of 261,000. Taiwan’s Hao-Ting Chao finished a close behind, bagging up 230,800 in chips. China’s Haisheng Bi (197,000) rounded out the top three, with Japan’s Hiroyuki Noda bagging up a stack of 196,300 chips.

 The final two starting flights of the 2024 Asian Poker Tour Jeju Main Event continued the smashing success of the flagship tournament at Landing Casino, Jeju Shinhwa World. The Main Event guarantee of KRW 2 billion  was reached in the first few levels of Flight D, with the total number of entries currently standing at 1,043 – including 106 Natural8 OnLive players.

Flight C drew 207 entries , with the final Flight D attracting a further 156 entries. A total of 100 players survived Flight C, with reigning APT Main Event champion Daisuke Ogita leading the way with a stack of 206,000. The fourth and final flight saw a further 71 players survive, with Japan’s Ryo Shishido topping the counts with 224,800. In total, 396 players advanced to Day 2 from four starting flights and leading the pack is the flight A front runner Chao Xi who will be returning for Day 2 with the overall chip lead. He is followed by the USA’s Nan Chen (333,500).

Japan’s Yukako Hiroi Claims FirstLive Title in Richest South Korean APT Women’s Event

The second of the series women’s events – the KRW 300,000 Event #50: Women’s Event drew a record 70 entries, generating a KRW 17,925,600 (~USD 12,930) prize pool which was shared by the top 9 players. Japan’s Yukako Hiroi earned the accolades, defeating China’s Yimo Tian heads-up, claiming a KRW 5,225,600 (~USD 3,800).Tian took KRW 3,760,000 (~USD 2,730) for her runner-up finish, with Hong Kong’s Hiulam Wong taking the number three spot for KRW 2,450,000 (~USD 1,780).

China’s Xiaohui Tan Takes Down Event #51: Turbo Claiming First APT Title

The KRW 900,000 Event #51: Turbo on Wednesday, May 1 drew a field of 169 entries for a KRW 132,783,300 (~USD 95,925) prize pool.  China’s Xiaohui Tan won the title after defeating compatriot Jianfeng Jiao heads-up to claim her maiden APT title and the KRW 30,883,300 (~USD 22,450) top prize.

Jiao, who was hunting for his first baby lion trophy, earned KRW 20,910,000 (~USD 15,200), with Australia’s David Wang rounding out the winner’s podium for KRW 13,940,000 (~USD 10,135). Natural8 Ambassador Yu Chung “Nevan” Chang also posted the final table finish, taking KRW 3,080,000 (~USD 2,240) for his ninth-place finish.  

Japan’s Kojiro Fujimoto Takes Down Event #52: Turbo – NL Omaha High – Lazy Rivers

The KRW 400,000 Event #52: Turbo – NL Omaha High – Lazy Rivers  saw 38 entries in action, all battling for a share of the KRW 13,122,160 (~USD 9,480) prize pool. Japan’s Kojiro Fujimoto overcame China’s Chuan Yu heads-up to bag a KRW 4,852,160 (~USD 3,525) and his maiden live tournament title. Yu earned KRW 3,350,000 (~USD 2,435) for his runner-up finish, with Canada’s Hyo Joon Ko rounding out the podium finishes and receiving a KRW 2,130,000 payout for his third-place finish.

Vietnam’s Phuong Ngoc Nguyen Wins First APT Title in Event #53: Hyper Turbo – Double Stack

The KRW 400,000 Event #53: Hyper Turbo – Double Stack drew 109 entries to battle it out for a share of the KRW 37,639,880 (~USD 27,185) prize pool. It was Vietnam’s Phuong Ngoc Nguyen who claimed the title after an ICM chip chop with heads-up opponent Kuan Yu Lin of Taiwan. Nguyen earned KRW 8,339,880 (~USD 6,050) and his first APT title, with Lin locking up a KRW 7,900,000 (~USD 5,735).

Antonio Seremet Wins Second Series Title in Event #54: Hyper Turbo – NL Single Draw Lowball Mix

Australia’s Antonio Seremet has joined the double title club, winning the KRW 300,000 Event #54: Hyper Turbo – NL Single Draw Lowball Mix (A-5, 2-7) for his second APT title at the ongoing festival.Seremet bested 38-strong field to claim the lion’s share of the 9,731,040 (~USD 7,030) prize pool. He overcame Taiwan’s Li-Ta “Leon” Hsu heads-up to take the KRW 3,611,040 (~USD 2,620) top prize. Another Australian Matthew Ginn earned KRW 1,580,000 for his third-place finish in the event.

Singapore’s Kim Wah Chiu Earns His Maiden Live Title in Event #55: Super Hyper Turbo

The day’s last tournament was the KRW 300,000 Event #55: Super Hyper Turbo, which drew a field of 49 entries and saw players battle over twenty-one 5-minute levels for a share of the KRW 12,547,920 (~USD 9,060) prize pool, with Singapore’s Kim Wah Chiu taking down the title for KRW 3,947,920.Chiu defeated pro Sparrow Cheung who took home KRW 2,850,000 for his runner-up finish in the event.
