On Day 5 of the 2024 Asian Poker Tour (APT) Jeju, the Main Event witnessed a remarkable increase in attendance, more than doubling the expected turnout. Adding to the 289 entries of Day 1A one day prior, the second flight of the main event drew a field of 289 entries including 233 unique players. A total of 130 players bagged up chips to advance to Day 2, with Japan’s Norihide Tanaka topping the chip counts with a stack of 261,000. Taiwan’s Hao-Ting Chao (230,800) China’s Haisheng Bi (197,000) rounded out the top three stacks of the day. Following two starting flights, the main event’s field reached a total of 575 entries across the first two flights.

Joseph Cheong wins the 2024 APT Jeju Superstar Challenge 

Event #27 Superstar Challenge, has a buy-in of KRW 30 million ($21,834) and attracted a field of 36 players, which takes the prize pool to KRW 1,012,680,000 ($735,655). The prize pool was distributed among the Top 5 players at the final table. WSOP Bracelet winner Joseph Cheong outlasted 35 players to win his first Black Lion Trophy. 

Joseph Cheong delivered an outstanding performance, claiming victory in the KRW 30,000,000 ($21,834) Superstar Challenge at APT Jeju. His impressive win earned him a substantial prize of KRW 374,700,000 ($272,160). Cheong’s journey to victory included overcoming an eight-to-one chip deficit in a captivating heads-up battle against Tianyuan “Terry” Tang, spanning fifty-four intense hands. Tang’s commendable runner-up finish saw him take home KRW 258,230,000 ($187,560).

Edward Yam Wins Fourth APT Title in Event #91 Short Deck – Triple Chance 

The KRW 1M Event #91: Short Deck – Triple Chance at APT Jeju attracted a star-studded field of 52 entries, with 39 unique players. This led to an impressive prize pool of KRW 45,396,000 ($32,890).

The Hong Kong player Edward Yam showcased his exceptional Short Deck skills at the KRW 1M Event #91: Short Deck – Triple Chance at APT Jeju, securing his fourth final table appearance of the festival. Yam’s outstanding performance earned him the winner’s purse of KRW 14,306,000 ($10,310). This victory marked his fourth career APT title, achieved after defeating Danny Tang in a heads-up battle.
