Euan McNicholas shone brightest in a Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) event, taking down the £1,650 High Roller in Manchester. He bested a competitive field of 110 entries and Matt Davenport (runner-up for £28,510) in the heads-up battle, taking the coveted title and £37,540 top prize.

The high roller event  generated an impressive £158,400 prize pool, which was finally shared by the top 10 players. Reigning Irish Open champion David Docherty was the first player to finish in the money, with the likes of Thomas Clack, Andrew Hulme, and Endrit Geci banking some prize money but falling shy of a final table appearance. The first player to fall from the final table was Andy Wilson (9th) and he was followed by Brandon Sheils (8th), Yucel Eminoglu (7th) and Marc Foggin (6th).

The next player to fall was George Pop (5th) whose pocket fives could not hold up against the K-8 McNicholas. A little later, Keith Johnson shoved his remaining stack with A-2 from the small blind, and McNicholas called with the A-6 from the big blind. McNicholas’ hand held to reduce the final table to three players. Tuan Le was the next to fall, busting in third place. The hand in question saw Matt Davenport limp with Ah Kh. Le moved all-in with K-J and Davenport called. Davenport hit full house to win the pot.

McNicholas held a 6,300,000 to 4,500,000 chip lead over Davenport moving into the heads-up, and it did not take long for him to become a GUKPT champion. The final hand saw Davenport limp in with A-10. McNicholas shoved with Q-J, and Davenport called with his remaining stack. A jack on the flop gave McNicholas the lead, and his hand remained best to send Davenport packing in second place.
