He then rivered a straight with A-5 to best the A-J of Andras Matrai (4th – $43,212). Maor Zaharagi knocked out Jozef Cibicek (3rd – $57,257) to move into the final heads-up showdown for the coveted WPT title.

Gumz held nearly a 3:1 chip lead to start, and was able to extend his lead. Finally, it was all over with Zaharagi shoving from the button for 11 big blinds with Ac 3h and Gumz calling with Qd 10h. Paul McAulay Wins GUKPT Edinburgh Main Event To Claim His Maiden Live Title

Another key event to conclude recently was the 2024 Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) Edinburgh Main Event. Sporting a buy-in of £900, the prestigious tournament drew in 184 entries, collecting an impressive £153,980. In the end, Paul McAulay topped the field, winning his maiden live title and £34,810, his biggest score of 2024. After the victory, the Scotsman now has $211,400 in live earnings. Hot on McAulay’s heel was Matthew Davenport, who walked away with £26,180 as the runner-up.

Featuring three starting flights, the tournament paid out the top 22 finishers. Laurynas Jakutis (22nd- £2, 120) was the first player to finish in the money and he was followed by GUKPT crusher Calogero Morreale, Robbie Bull, Sinead Priestley, Colin Gillon, and Ludovic Geilich during Day 2 of the event.

The elimination of Yasong Tang in tenth marked the end of Day 2 and set the official final table. Callum Gordon, who started the final table as the shortest stack, the first player to fall. He ran his pocket fours into pocket kings of David Johnson. McAulay delivered the first knockout when he busted Thomas Clack in eighth place. McAulay shoved with ten-five, and Clack called with  ace-five. Clack paired his ace on the river but McAulay hit a flush to bust his opponent.

McAulay’s next victim was Greg Thomson who shoved his last ten big blinds with ace-jack against McAulay’s seven-six.  McAulay found a six on the river to bust his opponent in sixth place. The next player to fall was Kevin Frame who shoved ten big blinds with ace-seven, and McAulay called with king-jack. McAulay flopped a jack, and held from there to bust Frame in fifth place. McAulay continued his domination and eliminated David Johnson (fourth) before the next elimination delivered by Matt Davenport, who eliminated Andrew Hawksby in third to move into the heads-up.

Both players started the heads-up with almost even stacks. While it was anyone’s tournament to win, McAulay prevailed to win the title. On the final hand, McAulay raised and Davenport shoved for 1.4 million. McAulay made the call. Davenport showed pocket three against McAulay’s pocket nines. The pocket nines held, Davenport fell in second place, and McAulay won his maiden live title.

There were more than a half dozen winners crowned at the GUKPT Edinburgh festival. A huge shoutout to Ankit Ahuja who made our country proud by winning the £1,650 High Roller. Hats off to Sinead Priestley, who shipped the £550 GUKPT Cup and was the only lady to clinch the title at the festival. The GUKPT Edinburgh results have been updated on The Hendon Mob Database.
