The past few days have been full of high-octane action on the live circuit. We saw several winners in the recently-concluded tournaments, including Germany’s Hermann Schweiger who clinched  The Hendon Mob Winter Championships Main Event title at the Grand Casino, Liechtenstein.

His winning story was nothing short of inspiring as he overcame a 4:1 chip deficit in his heads-up battle against Italy’s Nicola Diaco (runner-up for $22,234) to seize the title and top prize of $35,414.

Schweiger, who outlasted a field of 506 entries in this tournament, was also awarded a package to The Hendon Mob Championship Event, which is scheduled to take place in Cape Town in November 2024.

The final table began with Diaco in lead and he extended his lead further after scoring the first knockout on the final table in Daniel Schwitter (9th). He then knocked out the start of the final table short stack in Zita Farkas who ran her pocket nines into Diaco’s pocket jacks and departed in 8th place. Schweiger scored his first knockout on the final table in Hao Liu (7th). Liu’s pocket kings ran into Schweiger’s pocket aces.

Eliminations kept coming quickly with Marius Wolf (6th), Michele Falcone (5th) and Skalonja (4th) falling quickly. After eliminating Skalonja, Diaco also busted Stefan Fink in 3rd place. Having knocked out five of his opponents on the table, Diaco entered heads-up with a 4:1 chip advantage. However, Schweiger staged a great comeback, doubling up with A-Q versus Diaco’s K-10.  He kept his momentum and edged his way into the lead. Finally, it was all over when Diaco moved all in with 4-3, and Schweiger called with pocket fives, which held and sealed him the coveted victory.
