The 2024 PokerStars European Poker Tour (EPT) Paris €50k Super High Roller has found a champion in Frenchman Thomas Santerne. The largest buy-in event of the EPT Paris series drew 62 entries and built €2,916,480 in prize pool. In the end, the lion’s share went to Santerne who defeated Chris Brewer, denying the latter back-to-back victory in this event and claiming his maiden Super High Roller title and €889,000 in top prize money. Brewer, having claimed this event last year, was looking to win back-to-back win but had to settle for the runner-up prize worth €583,300.

The event’s field had many notable names in action, including Sam Greenwood, Steve O’Dwyer, Artur Martirosyan, Timothy Adams, Duco ten Haven (fresh from his win in the €10k Mystery Bounty) and Stephen Chidwick and Daniel Dvoress (both fresh from their success in this week’s  €25k SHR events).

It took two days for the field to whittle the field down to the final six players. Chidwick and Niklas Astedt picked up hefty payouts for their eighth and seventh places respectively on the final table.

Leader of the final six was Chris Brewer, who was looking to go back-to-back after winning this €50k event in Paris last year. Short-stacked Sirzat Hissou was the first to bust. He was followed by none other than Markkos Ladev in fifth. Down to four and it was Dutchman ten Haven who fell next to Frenchman Thomas Santerne. Haven had pocket tens, which failed to hold against Kd 8d of Santerne who hit a flush, busting Haven in fourth place. Belgium’s Pieter Aerts exited in third place and he too was eliminated by Santerne who hit his ace on the river and beat Aerts’ flopped King top-pair.

Heads-Up Play

Heads-up saw Santerne with the 2.5:1 chip lead. Although the heads up battle with Brewer was a topsy-turvy affair, it eventually ended with Brewer’s dream of back-to-back win remaining unfulfilled. On the final hand, Brewer shoved with Kh 6h and got a quick call from Santerne holding 9h 8h. The board ran out 3d 3h 10s 9s 5s, giving Santerne the victory and the coveted €889,480 top prize.
