Michael Kane Wins Latest 888poker UKPL Main Event

Michael Kane triumphed at 888poker UK Poker League Edinburgh Main Event. The Scottish player topped a field of 310 players, taking home the trophy and £25,208 of the £147,730 prize pool. 

Playing and winning in Edinburgh isn’t a new thing for Michael, the player has participated in a lot of Edinburgh-based live tournaments. In 2014, Michael finished in 7th place for £15,570 in the UKIPT Main Event. In 2019, the player finished runner-up for  £27,860 in GUKPT Main Event Edinburgh. 

49 players out of 311 players returned for Day 2 of the UKPL Edinburgh Main Event, with every player receiving at least £840 for participating in the event. Matthew Davenport was one of the first players to cash in. Some players who earned money but weren’t able to make it to the Final table included the likes of Robbie Bull and Colin Gillon.

Chris Johnstone was the first player to be eliminated from the final table. He couldn’t beat Roddy MacNeil’s pocket kings with his ace-ten cards. The player finished 9th for £2,960. 

Paul Santos did a crazy move by going all in with pocket eights, risking his entire stacks for 50 big blinds. Michael Kane called with his ace-king of spades. The flop revealed an ace, which sent Paul Santos home. Paul was eliminated at number 8th for £3,470. 

Kane won another hand, this time by beating MacNeil. Roddy MacNeil went all in with pocket-sixes, risking his remaining 16 big blinds. Kane had an ace-queen, which easily beat MacNeil’s hand. As a result, MacNeil finished at number 7th position for £3,990.

Paddy Doonan’s elimination was a crazy one as we saw a blind versus blind battle. The flops revealed nine-seven-five. In the big blind Paddy had five-seven, but shockingly George Wyatt in the small blind held nine-seven. George’s hand held, busting Paddy at number 6th for £5,020.

Kane struck again with his best hands and beat the popular pro player Paul McTaggart. Paul McTaggart was a short stack and lost with an ace-eight of diamonds against Kane holding the king-deuce. Both turn and river cards helped Kane beat Paul. Paul ended up in 5th place for £7,090.

Wyatt was next to go home. In a small blind position, Wyatt went all in with his 12 big blinds, holding queen-eight. Helder Casacasena bet with ace-deuce. The flops brought an ace, and Helder won the won pot. Wyatt finished in 4th place for £10,490.

The final three players struck a deal. Among the trio, Tom Laghzaoui, who was the runner-up at the recent GUKPT Manchester, finished at third place for £21,965. Tom went all in with his ace-seven and lost to Kane’s queens. 

Finally, it was all over, with Helder Casacasena going all in with ace-seven and Kane called with his dominating ace-king. Michael Kane emerged victorious at 888poker UKPL by beating five players at the final table. 

Other 888poker UKPL Results 

Aside from Michael Kane, only two players Bill Henderson and Barrie Greenan earned more than £10,000. Bill Henderson beat 57 players to win the £1,100 High Roller for £13,620, whereas Barrie Greenan outlasted 277 players to win the £250 NLHE Opening Voyage for £11,118.
