Hong Kong’s Elton Tsang is one of the few players possessing skills to claim a victory in a seven-figure buy-in poker tournament. He won the 2016 WSOP Big One For One Drop €1,000,000 buy-in for a bracelet and over $12.2 million. Nearly eight years after that historic victory, Tsang secured his second multi-million-dollar payday by emerging victor in the 2024 Triton Super High Roller Series Jeju Event #9: $150K NLH 8-Handed. He overcame a star-studded field of 117 entries in the high-stakes tournament at Landing Casino Jeju in South Korea to claim $4,210,000 and his first Triton trophy.
The prize pool for this event reached $17,550,000. The top 20 finishers made the money, including David Peters (20th), Patrik Antonius (19th), Fedor Holz (17th), Mikita Badziakouski (17th), five-time Triton champion Danny Tang (11th), and four-time bracelet winner Michael Addamo (10th).
The final table started with Wang Ye in the lead and Tsang in the middle of the pack. 2022 Triton Invitational $200,000 winner Sam Grafton (9th) was the first player to exit the final table, running A-J into the pocket aces of Tsang. Later, Sean Winter’s A-5 were outrun by the 7-5 suited of bracelet winner Alex Kulev. He was followed by Triton newcomer Wang Ye, who got all-in with A-K suited leading the A-J of Tsang. Tsang spiked a jack on the flop and held from there to eliminate Ye in seventh place.
Play was stopped for the night with six remaining. Day 3 resumed with Kulev becoming the first player to exit. He shoved with A-J suited against the A-10 of Michael Watson, who rivered a straight to win the pot and bring the field to five. The next key clash saw James Chen holding pocket nines against another A-10 for Watson. An ace-high runout sent Chen packing in fifth place.
Biao Ding called an all-in from Liang Xu with pocket aces on a king-high flop. Xu had a top pair. With neither player improving, Xu was eliminated in fourth place. Up next, Michael Watson’s run ended when his A-2 failed to come from behind against the A-Q of Tsang. Watson went out in third place for $1,895,000.
Tsang began heads-up with a 5:3 chip lead over Ding. The lead changed briefly, but Tsang was able to gain control and ship it. He won a big pot with top pair of aces to move into the chip lead before the final hand, which saw Tsang raise with 7h 5d and Ding called all-in with 10c 3c. The board ran out Kc 5h 3d Js 2d, giving Tsang a pair of fives to win the coveted pot as well as the title.
