Final Day Recap

Day 3 of Event #5: $1,000 Mystery Millions began with 18 hopefuls who were all looking to ladder up and find their way to the final table. Former bracelet winners Alex Ziskin and China’s Pei Li were  in contention at the start of the final day but could not survive the day’s onslaught, finishing in 18th & 15th places respectively.

The final table of the event was reached after the elimination of Jefferson James in 10th Place ($70,860). He shoved his Jd 9d against the Ah 9h of Carson Richards who flopped two pair with aces and nines to win the pot and bust James from the tournament.  Trayner began the final table as the chip leader with 43 big blinds. Trailing him in chips was USA’s Christopher Castellan with a stack of 30 big blinds. Jake Brown became the first final table causality, falling to Junho Song in 9th place ($89,411). He ran his 10h 9h into Song’s Ks 10s and failed to improve on a K-10-A-A-Q runout. The next player to fall was Christopher Castellan whose pocket eights failed to hold up against the Ah Kh on the 3s 7c 5c Ac Ad board. Castellan took home a cool $113,490 for his 8th place finish.

Just a few minutes later, Michael Miller ran his 8h 5h into pocket kings of Junho Song to exit in 7th Place ($144,900). Down to six-handed, the eventual champion Malcolm Trayner held a commanding chip lead. He won a couple of big pots and then amassed over half of the chips in play by busting Amir Mirrasouli in 6th Place ($186,080). He pocket sixes, which held up against the Ah 10s of Mirrasouli.

Trayner continued his momentum and then eliminated USA’s Oshri Azran in 5th Place ($240,350). He shoved with a dominating Ac Qc against the Jc 8c and failed to improve on the 7h 7d Kd 8d 4s board.

The next to fall was Junho Song who ran his Jc 8h into the Ac Kh of Carson Richards and found no help on the 3-3-10-7-10 board. He earned an impressive $312,250 for his fourth place showing. The next elimination was scored by Trayner who sent Eugene Tito to the rail in 3rd place ($407,970) to enter the heads -up play with an almost four-to-one chip advantage against USA’s Carson Richards.

Richards started off well by doubling on the very first hand of the heads-up and even took the chip lead. However, Trayner battled his way back into the lead and finished it off quickly. On the final hand, Richards shoved with Qs 10h after a limp from Trayner. The latter called with Kd Jh and the board ran out 6c 3c 5c Kh Ah, giving Trayner the pot and title. Richards settled for $536,080 as the runner-up.
