Mega Monster Champion Joel Doney Leads the Winners at The Lodge This Month

The Lodge Card Club has become a go-to destination for poker players, offering thrilling tournaments and life-changing opportunities to win big on the felt. From the Mega Monster to weekly events, the club has hosted several thrilling tournaments this month.

The club kicked off the month, with the Lodge Mega Monster, which ran from August 1 to 12. The $1 million guaranteed tournament featuring a buy-in of $400 exceeded all expectations. The event drew 5,462 entries across 25 Day 1 flights between August 1-10 and collected a guarantee-smashing prize pool of more than $1.8 million.

Following a marathon 25 Day 1 flights and two more days of action, the tournament wrapped up on August 13 with Joel Doney winning the title after defeating Joseph Wals in the heads-up battle. He took home a career-high score of $302,237 and the glorious Lodge trophy. This marked his first victory of 2024 and third title overall. His previous title also came at the same venue when he won the $500 No Limit Hold’em – Winter Main Event of The Lodge Holiday Classic, Round Rock for $90,005.

The Lodge Mega Monster tournament running over the course 12 days paid out the top 475 finishers, with three players Joel Doney –  (1st for $302,237), Joseph Walsh (2nd – $165,895) and Eric Tang 3rd – $118,269) – walking away with six-figure prizes. The other notable scores belonged to Peter Green (4th – $79,375), the Lodge’s own Skull Mike (5th – $60,325), and Evan Ashkarkhizani (6th – $48,125).

While the Mega Monster is over, the next edition of this prestigious tournament has been announced. The upcoming Mega Monster returns next year in August.

Monday $2K Guaranteed Bounty (August 12)

This event drew 79 players and found a winner in Howard Hammerbeck (1st – $1,336).  Ronald Sax (2nd – $829), and Robert Murphy (3rd – $542) rounded out the podium finishes.

Tuesday $1K Guaranteed NLH (August 13)

The Tuesday $1K Guaranteed NLH event played to a heads-up ICM chop with female poker pro Paula Zingelmann (1st – $1000) emerging victorious. Nathan Corbin placed runner-up and walked away with $732) in prize.

Tuesday $15K Guaranteed Freeroll (August 13)

The Tuesday $15K Guaranteed Freeroll drew 146 entries, and played to a five-way ICM deal. N. Amicucci (1st – $3,859) emerged victorious, while Zeeshan Alam (2nd – $3,624), David Solomon (3rd – $3,592), Tyler Bautista (4th – $2,794), and Tyler Filz (5th – $2,737) were the other top finishers.

Wednesday $1K Guaranteed Freezeout (August 14)

The Wednesday $1K Guaranteed Freezeout ended in a four-way even chop. Joe Bowser, Archie Gregory, Steven Ward, and Roy Loverde each took home $749 after the four-way deal.

Thursday $1K Guaranteed NLH (August 15)

The Thursday $1K Guaranteed NLH came to a close with a five-way ICM deal. Michael Lehner (1st – $710) emerged victorious,  with Robert Kyle (2nd – $596), Steven Ward (3rd – $537), Steve Roeder (4th – $523), and G. Scaramuzza (5th – $498) rounding out the top five spots.

Friday $4K Guaranteed Freezeout (August 16)

This event drew a field of 103 players, and ended  in a heads-up ICM deal. Alex Damico (1st – $2,497) won the tournament, with Gregory Sariti (2nd – $2,109), Sean Murphy (3rd – $1,241), and Se Pak (4th – $900) and Jacob Stein (5th – $1,307), Chad Spencer (6th – $1,124), and Sean Murphy (7th – $1,071) rounding out the final seven.

Austin Ladies Event (August 17)

The multi-week Austin Ladies Poker Series debuted at the Lodge on August 17 and found the first winner in Salima Dhanani, who walked away with $1,420) for her first-place finish in the tournament.

$40K Guaranteed “The Art of Poker” (August 17)

The $40K Guaranteed “Art of Poker” event drew a field of 360 entries, and ended  a heads-up chop. Nischal Colluru and Daniel Saczyk each took home $13,955 per the terms of the deal. Colluru won the heads-up match to win the tournament trophy. Other top finishers of the tournament included Jonathan Dull (3rd – $7,564), James Cazin (4th – $5,508) and Thuy Nguyen (5th – $4,039).

Sunday $15K Single Re-Entry Deep Stack (August 18)

The Sunday $15K Guaranteed Deep Stack attracted a field of 131 players competing for $26,724 in prize money. The tournament culminated in a six-way ICM deal. Joseph Walsh (1st – $4,771) won the tournament, with Richard Hirsch (2nd – $4,631), Willis Prieto (3rd – $3,914), and D. Waggoner (4th – $3,130), Julius Cantu (5th – $2,685), and John Trumbul (6th – $2,564) rounding out the final six.
