In the world of high-stakes poker, few stories are as captivating as that of Huang Wenjie. Once considered a newcomer on the global scene, the 35-year-old Chinese professional poker player has rapidly risen to prominence, proving his strategic prowess on the big stage. From online dominance to crushing some of the toughest live fields in the game, Huang Wenjie is establishing himself as a rising force in international poker.

Who is Huang Wenjie?

Huang Wenjie, also known as We Jie Huang, is a professional poker player from China. Although many initially labeled him a “newbie,” Wenjie is far from inexperienced. He burst into global recognition by winning the 2025 Triton Poker Jeju Main Event, defeating an elite field and poker legend Dan “Jungleman” Cates in a thrilling heads-up battle. Wenjie is also a bracelet winner. He earned a WSOP gold bracelet in an online heads-up event before this major win.

Huang Wenjie’s Poker Career Highlights and Winnings

Wenjie’s first recorded live cash came in 2019 when he finished in the money at the Tiger Poker Cup Main Event, earning $1,837. He followed that up with two cash finishes at the TJPT China Poker Series Championship in 2020, including a money finish in the Main Event, bringing his total prize money close to $3,000.

His career truly took off during the global shift to online poker. In the 2021 WSOP Online Series, Wenjie made a strong impression with one final table appearance and a final table bubble. He placed 10th in Event #11: $10k NLH Super MILLIONS High Roller, securing his first six-figure score of $100,504, and later finished third in Event #21: $25k Super High Roller Championship, earning a massive $720,679.

In 2024, Wenjie claimed his first WSOP gold bracelet by winning Event #26: $10k Heads-Up Championship during the 2024 WSOP Online International Series. Outlasting a 128-entry field, he earned $363,893 from the $1.2 million prize pool.

First Triton Poker Victory: A Breakthrough Year

The year 2025 marked a major milestone in Wenjie’s poker journey. He claimed his first Triton poker title by winning the $100k Triton Poker Jeju Main Event, conquering a stacked field of 285 entrants. In a dramatic heads-up match, he defeated Daniel Cates (aka “Jungleman”) and took home a life-changing $5,555,000—his biggest career score to date.

He followed that performance with another strong showing, finishing 7th in the $100k PLO Triton Poker Jeju Event, adding $423,000 to his growing bankroll.

Career Earnings

As of April 2025, Huang Wenjie has cashed in over 16 major poker tournaments, amassing nearly $7 million in total earnings. The bulk of this comes from his remarkable run at the 2025 Triton Poker Jeju, where he earned approximately $6 million, followed by $1,180,664 from 9 cashes at the World Series of Poker.

With his fierce playing style, growing list of accolades, and a steady climb to the top, Huang Wenjie is undeniably one of the most exciting rising stars in the global poker scene.
