Daniel Negreanu, the 7th-time WSOP bracelet winner and ambassador of GGPoker, has been very vocal about rule changes in the game, whether it’s about banning electronic devices or strict rules on the use of a solver at the final table. Negreanu recently called for a ban on face coverings, sunglasses and card protectors. Negreanu thinks that these changes are good for the game and will improve the game for both players as well as for viewers. Negreanu shared on his X/Twitter Profile @RealKidPoker
“Poker rule changes I would vote for:
1. No face covering of any sort.
2. No Sunglasses.
3. If a player bets 90% or more of their stack, it is an all-in.
4. No card protectors allowed on the table.
In the end, he wrote, this will improve the player as well as viewer experience, protecting the game. Further explaining the #4 Rule, Negreanu said, “Tiny cameras can be placed inside card protectors and see the cards being dealt.”
Poker operators are already looking to solve this problem and recently PokerStars announced a new style of deal in its live events. According to this new style, the cards would be slid out instead of being pitched. The idea is to make the game fair and eliminate cheating.
Negreanu has been vocal about players covering their faces, with sunglasses or any mask. He even had an X/Twitter feud with Issac Haxton for covering his face with a mask, even after the pandemic was over. While several players were okay with the first two rule changes, there was some debate on #3 and #4.
Leaving One Chip Behind
Negreanu was very vocal about rule #3, which says “If a player bets 90% or more of their stack, it is an all-in.” This came after an ugly experience of him at the 2024 WSOP Paradise. Leaving one chip behind has been a recent trend among pros to stall themselves for pay jumps or save themselves from eliminations.
Negreanu revealed his 2024 WSOP Paradise incident, in which he saw this situation.
The seven-time bracelet winner also shared tips to protect players from situations like this—when dealing with situations like this say “All in” instead of “call.”
World Poker Tour’s Executive Director Matt Savage invited Daniel Negreanu to attend the 2026 Poker TDA Summit to talk about the issues much more in-depth.
