WSOP 2024: Richard Ashby Wins His Second Bracelet, While Alex Manzano Wins His First Bracelet

After 14 years of winning his first bracelet, the British player Richard Ashby captured his second bracelet in Event #32 at the 2024 World Series of Poker. In 2010, Richard Ashby won his first WSOP gold bracelet in the $1,500 Seven Card Stud, and now, after 14 years, Ashby won his second gold bracelet in the same Seven Card Stud event. Richard Ashby defeated his fellow British player Adam Owen to claim his second gold bracelet and the top prize of $113,725.

The event attracted 406 entries, making a prize pool of $542,010. The prize pool was shared among the top 61 players. Some poker pros like David Singer (18th), Owais Ahmed (17th), and David Prociak (10th) made it into the money. Here is a recap of the final table of 2024 WSOP Event #32: $1,500 Seven Card Stud.

The final day began with 9 players at the table. Richard Ashby entered the final day with a low chip stack but was able to double up during some crucial hands. Chris Tryba, eying for his second bracelet, was the first player to be eliminated at the final table. 

Chris Tryba was eliminated in 9th place, earning $8,009. Two $25k fantasy players Hal Rotholz (8th place – $10,343), and Aaron Kupin (7th place – $13,662) followed him. Short stack player Jaycin Cross was the next player to be eliminated (6th place -$18,450). 

The two-time bracelet winner Brandon Shack-Harris aiming to win his third bracelet tried navigating through his short stack but was eventually eliminated in 5th place, taking home $25,458. The four-handed play began with all players having a large stack. After an hour and a half, MengQi Chen was eliminated in 4th place for $35,880.

Michael Noori, aiming to add a second bracelet to his career, won big hands throughout the tournament. He was eventually eliminated in 3rd place for $51,626, setting up the heads-up play between two British players.

In the heads-up play, Adam Owen held a massive chip lead against Ashby. But Ashby fought back, taking the chip lead. In the final hand of the tournament , Owen’s Q-J-7-J-8-5-8 had no match against Ashby’s A-10-A-10-6-4-K. Owen’s dream of winning his first WSOP bracelet is still a dream, Owen ended up as the runner-up and collected $75,805. While Richard Ashby collected $113,725, boosting his career earnings close to $3 million.

2024 WSOP Event #33: $600 PLO DeepStack, held at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas Casino. It attracted 2,402 players, taking the prize pool to over $1,225,020, which was paid among the top 361 finishers. 

The event attracted several bracelet winners, including two-time bracelet winner Michael Wang finishing in 89th place for $1,811, and three-time bracelet winner Nipun Java finishing 81st place, earning $1,811 (~₹1.51 Lakhs). 

Chile’s Alex Manzano triumphs in the $600 PLO tournament, earning $161,846 and his first WSOP gold bracelet. This win marks the Fourth-largest score in Manzano’s career. 

Manzano eliminated 5 players from the final table: Mitchell Hynam (6th place – $31,492), Oziel Velador, (5th place – $42,149), Damon Sita (4th place – $57,034), Kelly Kim (3rd place – $78,018), and Robert Gill (2nd place – $107,874). 

In the heads-up play, Robert Gill doubles up against Manzano, increasing his chip lead. But soon before the final hand, Manzano doubled up, closing the chip gap. In the final hand of the event, Gill went all in with Q-J-7-4 against Manzano’s A-9-8-3. The board came out 7-6-2-A-9, giving Manzano two pairs. 

WSOP Circuit Ring winner Robert Gill finishes as the runner-up, taking his first six-figure earning of $107,874.
