Although the Paris Olympics has officially concluded, this new announcement again started a discussion about the Olympics, as 23 gold medalist swimmer Michael Phillips expanded his partnership with Global Poker.

Michael Phelps first worked with the poker site as part of their 2023 Celebrity Challenge campaign, but as he expanded his partnership with Global Poker, players and fans can expect him participating in exciting campaigns and events ahead.

Michael Phelps first appeared in Global Poker’s Celebrity Challenge in October 2023. The challenge includes some of the popular names from the entertainment and sports industry, including musician DJ Khaled, basketball player Paul George, Karl Anthony Towns, and Michael Phelps himself.

In the Celebrity Challenge, Global Poker players could challenge the Olympic swimmer in a series of Sweeps Coin Qualifiers. Phelps also challenged DJ Khaled in a One on One heads-up battle.

“I’m thrilled to expand my partnership with Global Poker.” Michael Phelps said. “As someone who loves competition and strategy, I have always really enjoyed the game of poker. Partnering with a leader in the online social poker space is exciting, and I look forward to working together to bring new experiences to the Global Poker Community.”

Michael Phelps isn’t a new name in the poker fraternity. The Olympian has a long history of poker. Phelps made his first live poker appearance in 2008 in Ceasars Palace tournaments, where he banked $5,213 for a 5th-place finish.

He also participated in the 2017 World Series of Poker but didn’t make it into the money. Way before it, he competed in the 2013 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Main Event but didn’t make it to the final day.

In an interview with VGW, the gold medalist discussed his poker life and experience with Global Poker. “For me, Global Poker is an amazing place to enjoy the game, you know, and learn the game, again. I remember when I first learned poker and, you know, learning the hands and learning position, and learning what chips to put in at certain times and how many chips to put in at certain times, those little things are very special for me, and also fascinating.”

The announcement came after Global Poker operator VGW added TV personality and radio host Ryan Seacrest to its Chumba Casino Ambassador roster.
