The poker fraternity is saddened to hear about the loss of two of its poker players. Poker prodigy Daniel Sewing and avid poker player Matt Snook have unfortunately passed away in the past week.
Two-time Circuit Ring winner Daniel Sewing
Both the online and live poker fraternity is saddened to lose one of the poker prodigies, Daniel Sewing, at the age of 33. Renowned by his usernames “mj23style” and “RedsoxNets5,” Sewing has over a million dollars in online earnings and is regarded as one of the best online poker pros hailing from New Jersey.
Sewing’s close friend Mike “gags30poker” Gagliano shared the disheartening news on X on August 19.
Daniel Sewing has two circuit rings, which he claimed in the WSOP Circuit Online Series. His latest circuit ring victory came in March 2024, when he took down the $215 NLH Turbo event for his second circuit ring and a top prize of $15,702.
The NJ player secured his first ring in 2022, in which he outlasted a field of 180 entries and claimed his first ring for a 1st-place prize of $12,107.
Matt Snook’s passion for poker and his love of singing
Matt Snook competed in the 2024 World Series of Poker Main Event Championship while battling cancer. Snook has always looked at poker as a passion rather than a profession and has cashed in 33 poker events in his live career with $86,703 in winnings. Snook loved singing and participated in the popular American singing show “The Voice.”
He was diagnosed with a rare form of kidney cancer at the beginning of 2024. Despite battling cancer, he was able to compete in the 2024 WSOP Main Event, calling it a final bucket list item. “I got diagnosed with a rare form of kidney cancer on January 3rd,” Snook told PokerNews, “and this is probably going to be one of my last hookahs to play in a tournament.”
His family also made a GoFundMe page for his treatment, but he chose not to do it as he just wanted to enjoy his remaining days. “I am just trying to enjoy the good days that I have. I am blessed that I was able to get here to Vegas from Kansas City,” He added.
