GPI Rankings Asia: China’s Tony “REN” Lin Continues To Top The Charts

Undoubtedly, the Asian poker circuit has been buzzing with poker events. As the poker scene in Asia continues to evolve and get bigger by the day, there are a large number of poker pros that the circuit is producing. These players are not restricted just to the continent but are successfully proving themselves across geographical borders. 

A look at the Global Poker Index (GPI) Asia Ranking demonstrates just how successful the Asian poker pros are, giving tough competition to the players from the West. 

Among the Asian players, leading the GPI Asia Ranking is China’s Tony “REN” Lin. Lin’s Hendon Mob data indicates that the pro player has been playing live poker since 2015, and over his almost decade-long career, he has amassed several accolades and titles to his name. 

He made his WSOP debut in 2017 and since then has consistently cashed at the series every year. He has an impressive 46 cashes at the WSOP, accounting for $2,035,146 in earnings from the annual series alone.

He made headlines last year after winning the U.S. Poker Open $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em Event for $231,000 in March 2023. Later, he shipped the $25,500 Pot Limit Omaha – High Roller event for $266,700 in April 2023, followed by $ 48,500 No Limit Hold’em – WPT Alpha8 in December for $1,045,781.

Recent Achievements

Lin entered into 2024 with the PGT Last Chance series in Las Vegas, wherein he recorded two final table finishes and two other cashes. He then had two cashes at the APT Taipei series in February, both of which were final table finishes. 

Most recently, he was seen grinding at the Triton Poker Super High Roller Series Jeju in March. Here, he recorded four cashes, including a runner-up finish at the $25,000 + 1,500 No Limit Short Deck Hold’em Ante Only event.

Lin boasts of a lifetime earnings of $11,108,686 with $1,045,781 being his biggest live cash. With that, he ranks second on China’s All-Time Money list and 125th on the global All-Time Money list.  

The player is currently based in New York, USA, and sits on second spot on the GPI Ranking for Asia leaderboard with 4,065.83  points. He also ranks second on the overall GRI ranking, a position he has maintained for the past eight weeks straight. 

Behind Lin on the GPI Asia Rankings are Natural8 ambassadors, Hong Kong’s Daniel Chi Tang, and Thailand’s Punnat Punsri at the second and third spot with 3,578.65  and 3,480.78  points respectively. At the fourth spot is another Chinese pro Quan Zhou with 3,300.32 points.

The only Indian among the top 10 is Ankit Ahuja at the sixth spot with 3,110.29 points to his credit.Ahuja was at fifth spot last month but has been replaced by Biao Ding with 3,114.33 points this month. Notably, Ahuja tops the GPI rankings for India. Ahuja is followed by Malaysia’s Wai Kiat Lee (2,928.83 points) and Japan’s Shimizu “LASONE” Nozomu (2,900.02 points) on the GPI Leaderboard. 

India’s Triton Poker champion and high stakes sensation Santhosh Suvarna is currently ranked at the 15th spot with 2,689.66 points.
