APPT Manila 2024: India’s Animesh Jain, Rishi Karamchandani, & Pratik Modi Secure Titles

The Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) Manila 2024 is running full steam at the luxurious Okada Manila, Philippines. The 67-event series kicked off on July 14 and will wrap up on August 5. Team India has already made a significant impact in the series. Following their impressive performances at the WSOP, WPT Cambodia and Won Poker Cup, Indian players have already secured three titles in the ongoing series, with Animesh Jain kicking off the team’s winning streak by clinching victory in Event #12: ₱15K Win The Button – Hyper Turbo on July 25. Jain outplayed a field of 22 entries, earning his first live title and a career-best prize of ₱121,000.

Singapore’s Suresh Mylavarapu finished as the runner-up, taking home ₱76,000, while Japan’s Naoki Tomiyama (3rd for ₱51,000) and Himawari Narita (4th for ₱33,688) were the other players to cash from the  ₱281,688 prize pool.

Team India continued its winning streak, with Rishi Karamchandani winning Event #17: ₱20K Bubble Rush the next day. He outlasted 24 entrants to claim his maiden title and a ₱127,864 following a heads-up deal with Joseph Talamayan from the Philippines, who received ₱127,864 from the total ₱409,728 prize pool. Notably, this victory marked the first-ever live cash for Karamchandani.

A few days later on July 30, India’s Pratik Modi dominated ₱1 Million GTD Event #36: ₱15K Super Deep. He overcame a field of 333 entries to claim his first live title and a career-best ₱670,000 – largest score by an Indian at the ongoing series so far. He eventually struck a heads-up deal with the Philippines’ Eugene Habab, who also received ₱670,000. Another Indian to cash in this event was Siddharth Mishra who finished 29th for ₱ 32,000.

While Jain, Karamchandani, and Modi have achieved impressive victories, Vinayak Bajaj has been making waves with some impressive deep finishes. The Ranchi poker pro earned a substantial ₱439,000 for his 10th-place in the ₱25 Million GTD Event #23: ₱70K PokerStars Red Dragon. He continued his strong performance with another 10th-place finish in Event #27: ₱8.2K PokerStars Red Dragon Qualifier WYS at 100K Chips, adding ₱70,000 to his bankroll. On July 31, he cashed , finishing 14th for ₱ 80,000 in Event 47: Main Event Mega Qualifier – WYS at 80K Chips.

The event was eventually won by Soth Korea Hoin Kwak who overcame a field of 134 entries and earned ₱ 139,834 for his victory.

Among other Indians who has been making waves in the series is Siddharth Mishra who has already scored four cashes in the series. He first first cash came on the opening day of the serie on July 24, when he  finished 15th for  ₱16,500 in Event #1: ₱7.5K Early Bird ₱1 Million GTD. He followed up that with a 23rd place for ₱21,000. He then cashed the ₱15K Super Deep, finishing 29th for ₱32,000.

On July 31, Mishra made his first final table of the series, finishing 6th in ₱ 10,500 in Event 45: PokerStars Player Special, which was ultimately won by Aldous Jan Formanes from Philippines, who bested a competitive field of 220 entries to win ₱ 52,000 from the total ₱ 245,837 prize pool.

India’s veteran poker pro and the first-ever WPT Vietnam Main Event champion Dhaval Mudgal is also making his presence felt. He has already cashed four events, with his first cash coming in Event 8: APPT Open – ₱20M GTD where he finished 36th for ₱ 125,000. He followed that up with another 36th place for ₱ 75,000 in Event 20: APPT National – ₱10M GTD. He then cashed Event 20: APPT National – ₱10M GTD, finishing 55th for ₱ 120,000 in Event 23: PokerStars Red Dragon – ₱25M GTD. Most recently, he cashed Event 42: Six Handed ₱1M GTD, finishing 19th and earning ₱ 31,000 for his efforts.
