American poker pro Yunkyu Song has won the World Poker Tour (WPT) Prime Playground $1,150 CAD buy-in no-limit hold’em championship. He overcame a field of 1,587 best entries in the tournament and grabbed the prize worth C$164, 251. After adding this win, Yunkyu has now taken his live earnings to more than USD 1.1 million. The WPT Prime Playground Championship was really special for Song, as it was his third-largest score in his career.
YunKyu’s Journey To Victory Of WPT Prime Playground Championship
The WPT Prime Playground Champion was really a memorable one for Song as he entered the tournament in the middle of the pack with 16 players remaining in contention for the title. He was the second shortest stack when the final table of nine was set. After doubling up with A-K vs AQ during eight-handed action, he cracked aces of Rene Gauvin who was soon eliminated in sixth place ( $35,413).
During the four-handed play, Song then got an all-in with the set of sixes against the overpair of kings for Huang and held through the turn and river, busting his opponent in fourth place ($61,430)
The turning point came when Song’s A-J held Alexander Worg’s K-J to eliminate the latter in third place ($81,666). This hand grew Song’s stack to 37,500,000 against Kavin Rivest’s 27,300,000 moving into heads-up.
Song was able to further grow his advantage and was ahead when the final hand arrived. On the final hand, Rivest raised to 1,500,000 from the button with Ad Qd and Song three-bet to 5,500,000 with Ac Jc. Rivest four-bet shoved for 12,500,000 and Song decided to call. The board ran out Kc Js 5d 3s 4h where Song’s pair of jacks, earning him the pot as well as the title. Rivest received $109,852 as the runner-up finisher, while Song took home $164,251 for his victory.
