China’s Xixiang Luo created history by winning the first Double Board Bomb Pot Event at the 55th annual World Series of Poker (WSOP). The Chinese player triumphed in a field of 1,312 entries to win the new event $1,500 NLH/PLO, earning massive prize money of $270,820 and his first-ever WSOP gold bracelet.
This new event alternates between No-Limit Hold’em and Pot-Limit Omaha, with each round starting with a double-board bomb pot. These special pots occurred only on the first hand of each game.
This new event surprisingly draws a field of 1,312, creating a prize pool of $1,751,520. The staggering prize pool was distributed among the top 197 finishers. Several poker pros tried to win this new event, but some failed to reach the final table, including six-time bracelet winner Shaun Deeb (47th), David Benyamine (33rd), Rob Hollink (32nd), John Riordan (25th), and two-time bracelet winner David Prociak (19th). The third and final day began with only 16 players remaining. Xixiang Luo entered the day as the chip leader, followed by Daniel Hachem in second place. The final table action starts in just over an hour into the final day.
Bracelet winner Joseph Dulaney’s deep run came to an end after a brutal bad beat against David Funkhouser. He was eliminated in 8th place, earning $28,161.
Gabi Livshitz failed to beat Luo’s pocket kings with his A-Q, leading to his elimination in 7th place. The Israeli player earned $37,044 for his deep run. Luo didn’t stop after it. He quickly knocked out Marcos Exterkotter in 6th place for $49,439. Quan Zhou got eliminated in 5th place ($66,930), and William Kopp knocked out David Funkhouser in 4th place ($91,891), kicking off the three-handed play.
Despite his impressive play at the table, bracelet winner William Kopp was the next player to be eliminated in 3rd place, earning $127,925. Kopp went all-in with K-4 against Daniel Hachem’s pocket eights. The board came out Q-4-5-7-10, giving Hachem a top pair.
The chip lead was constantly changing during the heads-up play, but Luo eventually took a massive chip lead before the final hand of the tournament. In the final hand, the flop came out 9-9-7. Hachem with A-K-10-7 went all-in, unaware that his opponent Luo has J-10-9-8. The turn was 4, and the river was 5. It didn’t help Hachem’s hand.
Daniel Hachem, son of 2005 WSOP Main Event winner Joe Hachem, finishes in 2nd place, earning his best-ever live cash winning of $180,541.
