Day 43 of the 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) saw the record-breaking Main Event conclude Day 3 with 1,524  players remaining in contention for the stunning new bracelet and the life-changing $10,000,000 up top prize. Of those, 3,617 survived Day 2abc and Day 2d and returned for Day 3. However, at the end of the five levels of play, only 1,524 remained to return for Day 4.  Spain’s Francisco Perez Moreno ended the day as the chip leader with a stack of 2,187,000 chips, being the only player to cross the two-million mark

Meanwhile, a new champion emerged during the day and it was Garth Yettick from the USA. He overcame a star-studded field of 494 entrants to win Event #83: $1,500 Eight Game Mix 6-Handed of the WSOP 2024 for his maiden WSOP bracelet and $131,061. This marked only his second cash and he has now over $1,51,431 in live poker tournament winnings.

His journey was nothing short of extraordinary. He started the final table as the third shortest  and eventually overcame a five-to-one deficit in heads-up against the six-time bracelet winner Josh Arieh.

“I definitely feel like I was super lucky. I was very short stacked through the majority of yesterday. Whenever the chips did go in, I just won the races. It feels great, winning the bracelet and winning the money too. I’m just always happy to be playing poker,” said the eventual champion after the win.

WSOP 2024 Event #83: $1,500 Eight Game Mix 6-Handed Quick Recap

This event ran over the course of three days and generated a massive  $659,490, which was finally shared by the top 75 players, with a min-cash worth $3,000. The third and final day of this event saw only seven players, with two-time bracelet winner John Racener in the lead and Josh Arieh in second chip position. Yettick was the third-shortest at the seven-handed final table and one of only two players without a WSOP bracelet.

Yettick started off in style by scoring the first elimination from the final table. He busted China’s Xiaochuan Zhang in a hand of PLO, when Zhang’s kings collided on the flop against Yettick’s pair of queens and a flush draw.  Yettick hit flush on the turn, while Zhang collected $14,397 for his seventh-place finish.

The two-time bracelet winner Marco Johnson was next to fall as he lost a sizable 2-7 Triple Draw hand to Yettick who made an eight-six in a big three-bet pot. That left Johnson short and shortly after that he got it in with an eight-seven, and Yettick held a seven-six to take a near chip lead while Johnson was eliminated in sixth place for $19,614.

Following Johnson in fifth place was another two-time bracelet winner Maxx Coleman who got in his final chips in a PLO hand with ace-high and queens against Yettick’s ace-king high. He was awarded  $27,379 as the fifth place finisher.

Up next, one more two-time bracelet winner John Racener exited in fourth place for $39,135.  In this hand, Cernuto moved all in with pocket sevens and Racener shoved with ace-king. Yettick called with queens , putting both at risk. The board ran out to give Cernuto a straight to triple up. Yettick took down the side pot, while Racener hit the rail in fourth place. Later, three-time bracelet winner John Cernuto ran his king-four into the pocket nines of Josh Arieh and hit nothing on the board to exit in third place ($57,249).

Heads-up for the title

Arieh entered the heads up with the lead and quickly grew to a five-to-one lead over Yettick. Eventually, all of the chips got in during the PLO round, where Yettick held the top two against Arieh’s open-ended straight draw. With no help for Arieh, Yettick survived the all in. The next all-in clash came in No-Limit Hold’em, where Yettick’s ace-queen prevailed against Arieh’s nines with an ace falling on the flop.

Later, Arieh secured a double up in 2-7 Triple Draw with an eight-six, but in the next No-Limit Hold’em round, Arieh moved all-in holding ace-queen against the ace-king of Yettick. The board ran out in favour of Yettick to give him the title. Arieh collected $85,667 for his runner-up finish.
