In a move to further expand its global reach, the World Poker Tour (WPT) is finally heading to China. The brand will be visiting Macau for a week-long poker series this June. This marks a significant milestone in the WPT’s 22-year history, as it is the first time that the brand hosts a series in the region.

It is worth mentioning that Macau officials have approved the inaugural WPT series to be hosted at Wynn Macau in partnership with Allied Gaming & Entertainment (AEAG). The WPT Macau will take place from June 18 to 24 at Wynn Macau, one of just three venues in Macau currently offering live poker games. The HK$40,000 buy-in Championship event (June 20 to 24) and HK$200,000 buy-in WPT High Roller (June 19 to 20th) will serve as the key highlights of the upcoming WPT poker festival in Macau.

Macau has been a hub for gaming and poker, attracting renowned players like Phil Ivey, who has called it home. WPT  CEO Adam Pliska expressed his excitement about the WPT’s debut in Macau. The upcoming event is the result of collaborative efforts between Wynn Gaming, AEAG, and Macau officials.

“We are thrilled to be joining forces with two esteemed global partners, bringing the World Poker Tour to Macau,“ said Yinghua Chen, Chief Executive Officer of AGAE. “This marks WPT’s inaugural physical presence in Macau after over two decades of operation. As we expand our Allied Experiential Entertainment business, this collaboration represents another exciting advancement, leveraging our extensive resources and expertise in hosting world-class events to create unforgettable experiences in this dynamic market.”

“Macau has long been a sought-after destination for us, wanting to deliver the WPT experience to the region,” said the WPT CEO, Adam Pliska. “Thank you to AGAE and Wynn Macau for making this dream come true. We look forward to an incredible event.”

Linda Chen, the President, Vice Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of Wynn Macau, also offered comment, stating, “We are thrilled to partner with AGAE to host one of the most prestigious global poker competitions in Macau, marking its debut in this vibrant city.“

This is a bold move by WPT as the upcoming World Poker Tour (WPT) event will coincide with the World Series of Poker (WSOP). Perhaps the confidence for this decision stems from the resounding success of their recent WPT Cambodia festival. The record turnouts and impressive prize pools achieved during the Cambodia event have encouraged the brand to come up with a Macau series during the WSOP.

Preceding the Macau event, the WPT will host the WPT Rolling Thunder Championship at Thunder Valley Casino Resort in Northern California on March 23, which will then be followed by the WPT Voyage, a poker cruise to the Bahamas from March 31 to April 6.
