The latest World Series of Poker Circuit Harrah’s Cherokee $1,700 no-limit hold’em main event crowned a champion in Tyler Barnes who overcame a sizable field of 1,659 entries, winning the coveted title and the top prize of $383,856. The North Carolina resident scored every elimination at the official final table on his way to the grand victory.
This marked Barnes’ second WSOPC gold ring win and his largest tournament score. Before this six-figure score, his top score was the $39,051 he secured for winning the 2022 WSOPC $600 buy-in event at this same venue for his first ring.
“It feels great to win,” Barnes said. “I’d like to give a shoutout to Ryan D’Angelo for coaching and supporting me through this.”
The strong turnout for the tournament resulted in $2,513,385 prizepool which was shared by the top 250 players with a min cash of $2,546. D’Angelo, a bracelet winner, was among highly accomplished players to finish deep in this event alongside Barnes. D’Angelo ultimately fell in 12th place for $31,876. Several other notables survived to the final table, including 2021 Wynn Millions main event winner Andrew Moreno, who held the chip lead when the field whittled down to the final table.
Barnes scored his first knockout at the final table by winning a preflop race against Rubin Chappell (9th). He then went on to bust Christopher Mo (8th) and David Yue (7th) to continue his domination. His next victim was Moreno whose pocket jacks could hold against the pocket kings. Exiting in fifth place was Adam Hendrix whose A-Q suited ran into Barnes’ pocket nines preflop. Two-time bracelet winner Michael Wang’s pocket kings were cracked when Barnes turned Q-10 for a trip with queens.Up next, 15-time WSOPC gold ring winner Maurice Hawkins was knocked out in a three-way all-in where Barnes with Jd 9h made two pairs to win the pot.
Finally, it came down to the heads-up which did not last long. The final hand saw all of the chips go all-in on the Qd 9h 6h flop. Gilbert held Qs Jh and Barnes 7s 6d. The turn 5s and the river 8h completed the straight for Barnes, crowning him the champion.
