Out of the 274 players, 46 players advanced to Day 2. Day 2 ended with the formation of the final 9. Here is the final table recap of 2024 WPT Prime UK.
Final Table Recap of 2024 WPT Prime UK
Timothy Chung entered the final table with the chip lead and held it till the final hand. Short stacks were the first to leave the final table. Iulian Petrache ended in 9th place to collect £5,300 (~$6,961).
Chase Wilson’s deep run ended in 8th place, after his Kc-9s could not beat Francois Tosques’s Ks-Qs. Wilson received £6,700 (~$8,800). It didn’t take long for the field to whittle down to the four-handed play as the table shorts started to fall, one by one. Christopher Johnson bowed out in 7th place with £8,600 (~$11,295), Jason Riley ended up in 6th place for £11,200 (~$14,710), and Mingrui Cen was eliminated in 5th place to bank £14,700 (~$18,228).
The four-handed play lasted over two hours, but it soon turned into three-handed play after Arron Pointon’s Ah-4c failed to overcome Vincent Meli’s As-9h. The board favoured Meli, ending Arron Pointon’s run in 4th place for £19,500 (~$25,611).
One hour later, Francois Tosques became the short stack and needed a double-up to stay alive. He finally went all-in as soon as he saw his ace-deuce against Meli’s ace-jack. The board couldn’t improve the inferior hand of Tosques, and he had to leave the tournament in 3rd place for £26,000 (~$34,148).
Chung’s lead couldn’t last long in the heads-up as Vincent Meli fought back to close the gap but could not go all the way.
In the final hand, Chung limped with pocket threes, and Meli checked it with Jh-2c. The flop came 2h-Ah-Js, Chung raised, and Meli re-raised. The 3d on the turn gave Chung a set. Meli bet and Chung quickly called the bet. Meli still had hope of hitting a full house. However, the river card turned out to be 8s. Meli thought for some seconds and moved all in and Chung snap-called with his winning set of three. Vincent Meli banked £35,000 (~$45,969) for his runner-up finish.
