Spanish PokerStars commentator and ambassador Alejandro Romero has achieved a significant milestone in his thriving poker career. The 2024 Irish Open heads-up champion has been named as the UKIPT Player of the Year at the 2024 UKIPT Nottingham. In a close fight to the POY title, Romero defeated his competitors Artús Giménez and Víctor Caballero to claim the coveted title and a £15,000 package for the UKIPT 2025 tour.
The big news was announced just a couple of days back by PokerStars via a tweet reading “It’s official! PokerStars Ambassador Alex Romero (@and1ero) is named the UKIPT Player of the Year at #UKIPTNottingham, winning a £15K package for the 2025 tour.”
Romero is a rising star from Spain and his journey has been nothing short of remarkable. The Spanish player has amassed an impressive $63,379 in live tournaments since 2015. He had a stellar year, notching up several deep finishes at the UKIPT stops in 2024. He notched a 14th place for €9,100 at the UKIPT Malaga €1,100 Main Event and followed that up with a 10th place for £9,500 at UKIPT London £1,100 Main Event. He then finished runner-up in the UKIPT High Roller London for a career-high $ 47,849
Most recently, Romero ran deep in the 2024 UKIPT Nottingham £1,100 Main Event. For his impressive performances at the UKIPT, he earned enough points to beat Artús Giménez and top the player of the year leaderboard, earning the POY title and a £15K package for the 2025 tour.
