Poker is no longer just a man’s game, with more and more women joining in and proving their mettle on the felts. Currently in the spotlight is American female poker player Sarah Stefan, who made headlines at the ongoing World Series of Poker (WSOP) Circuit Grand Victoria (Chicago) a couple of days back. She emerged victorious in Event #3: $300 Ladies Event of the ongoing series after besting a competitive field of 92 entries and overcoming Joann Schmidt in one of the most tumultuous and swingy heads-ups to claim the top prize $6,126 and her first WSOPC ring.
Stefan, a public school teacher and poker player, is no stranger to winning live poker tournaments. She has won over four live poker titles since her first live cash back in 2012. However, a ring on the WSOPC was eluding her. She came close to winning it in 2022 in $ 400 No Limit Hold’em (Event 13) at the WSOPC in Cherokee but eventually ended up finishing runner-up to William Watson. Although she did not win the ring in that event, she ended up claiming $18,970, which remains her career-best score till date.
Her heads up match with another American Joann Schmidt in WSOPC Event #3: $300 Ladies Event saw history nearly repeat itself as she came down to just one big blind to Schmidt’s thirty eight at one point. However, she made an incredible comeback, spinning up from a 38:1 chip deficit into her very first WSOPC ring victory. This marked her career’s fifth live victory and second title of 2024, following her victory in the Tag Team Ring Event at RGPS Destination RunGood Council Bluffs by PokerGO in April.
Notably, this was the back-to-back final table score for Sarah Stefan, following her sixth place finish in the $250 NLH Ladies (Ring Event #13) at the WSOPC Chicago, Hammond in September. The latest win took her live earnings to over $223k.
