Sam Soverel continued his impressive high-roller run in 2024 with a victory at the PokerStars North American Poker Tour (NAPT) Las Vegas $10,300 High Roller. This adds to his successful year, where he already claimed two ARIA High Roller titles and made 10 final table appearances. Soverel took home the first-place prize of $385,750 and the NAPT trophy.
His victory was nothing short of spectacular, as he was at risk of elimination but gained momentum during six-handed play. He eventually faced the bracelet winner and the Young-Gun Nicolas Seward in heads-up match and defeated him to take down the coveted title.
The three-day event drew 170 entrants, creating a prize pool of $1,328,900, which was divided among the top 23 players. Thirteen players returned on Day 3, and it took two hours to reach the final table.
WSOP bracelet winner Nicolas Seward led the table, with Soverel close behind in second place. Seward scored his first elimination by cracking the pocket queens of Ryan Hohner with his ace-king. Soon after, three-time World Poker Tour winner Brian Altman was eliminated in 8th place, and bracelet winner Danny Wong exited in 7th after his pocket kings ran into Barry Woods’ ace-ten.
The six-handed play stretched over three hours as players competed fiercely for the top prize. Soverel scored his first elimination by busting Adam Adler in 6th place and David Coleman in 4th, which helped him build his chip stack. During three-handed play, Soverel gained control by winning both small and large pots in multi-way hands. He eventually took the lead and knocked out Barry Woods in 3rd place, entering heads-up with a massive chip advantage.
Seward fought bravely but could not go all the way. On the final hand, Soverel put Seward all-in on a board of 8♠-K♣-10♠-6♣-A♦. Soverel revealed K♠-9♠, making a pair of kings against Seward’s 10♦-4♠. Seward banked $241,100 for his impressive run, taking his career earnings up to $1.9 million.
