“It feels really great, I don’t really ever play any big tournaments that go into the week. I need to have a pretty fine schedule to skip all my work and play, so normally I don’t play these. But this time my friends, they convinced me to play in this. This was the time to play. I’ve been in good form, I’ve been playing well, I couldn’t miss this tournament,” said Singh after clinching the career-defining victory.
For those who don’t know much about Singh, he is a 48-year-old poker player, who was born in Delhi to an auto-rickshaw driver. Hailing from a proud Sikh family, he relocated to the US in the ’90s in pursuit of a career and later an MBA. His father, an auto-rickshaw driver, raised four children well, making sure that they got the higher education despite financial hardships in the family.
To claim his latest win, Singh overcame a tough final table featuring seasoned pros in Jonathan Jaffe and Benny Glaser. The tournament culminated in a 3-way deal where Singh held the chip lead and was declared the champion. Dan Martin and Jesse Lonis pocketed $460,000 and $404,247 respectively.
