Poker Dream: Nishant Sharma Secures Second Consecutive Main Event Victory, Akshay Nasa Wins Mini High Roller

Indian poker pros continue to make waves on the international scene, with the latest success coming from Nishant Sharma and Akshay Nasa at Poker Dream 11 Malaysia. Sharma made history by winning the series’ main event title, his back-to-back poker dream main event victory. The Mumbai poker pro topped a field of 2, 013 entries to win the series headliner Event #18 MYR 4,800 Main Event, claiming a massive MYR 811,629 (over INR 1.53 Crores) from the total prize pool of MYR 6,807,305. This was Sharma’s second highest live score, following $230,475 (INR 1.58 Crores), which he earned for his 34th place finish in the WSOP 2018 Main Event!

India raked in over 25 cashes at the just concluded Poker Dream 11 Malaysia, including more than a half dozen of final table finishes and three title wins. Sharma’s victory marked the third title for the country at Poker Dream 11 Malaysia. Now that the 11th edition of the series is over, it will be interesting to see whether this talented pro secures a historic third Main Event title win at Poker Dream 12 Jeju, which features the biggest ever prize pool of KRW 2.8 billion ($2 Million) for Jeju and runs from 26th September to 6th August 2024 at Shinhwa World.

Poker Dream 11 Malaysia Main Event Final Table

To claim his latest main event victory at Poker Dream 11 Malaysia, Sharam overcame a strong final table featuring Event #19 Mystery Bounty winner Ang Yang Siang, Kamiya Leo, Phua Chern Chze Isaac, fellow countryman Harsh Dembla, Liu De Feng, and Martynov Vladimir. Sharma eventually clashed with Malaysia’s Chong Yong Chin in the heads-up. The latter could not go all the way, eventually bowing out in second place for MYR 768,365. Sharma had a remarkable run in this edition of the series. Prior to this victory, he finished runner-up in the Mystery Big Bounty for MYR 67,300 and 36th in the Malaysia Open for MYR 7,900.

Currently ranked 11th on India All Time Money List, Sharma is one of the most successful pros from India with an impressive $860,866 in live tournament winnings. According to The Hendon Mob, he captured  his first live title by winning HK$ 2,700 + 300 No Limit Hold’em (Event #10) at Macau Poker Cup 27 in 2017 and followed up that with a victory in  Adda52 Colossus Main Event victory for $ 41,877 and World Poker Championship High Roller Single Day for $ 28,552 in 2022. His previous main event victory at Poker Dream Malaysia 9 came in April this year when he topped a field of 752 entries, claiming a whopping $ 148,283 in top prize.

Akshay Nasa Claims Victory in Mini High Roller for MYR 104,500

Nishant Sharma was not the only winner on the final day of Poker Dream 11 Malaysia as Akshay Nasa also clinched a victory. He emerged victorious in Event #42: Mini High Roller, taking home MYR 104,500 (over INR 19.75 Lakhs) from a prize pool of MYR 379,755. This marked India’s second victory at this edition, following Kapadia Abdeali Mannan’s impressive win in Event #30: Mystery Bounty Turbo for MYR 46,200.

Nasa’s win is his first live poker title of 2024, adding to his impressive track record. Just earlier this year, he finished 8th in the VPL Last Chance High Roller (Event #37), earning ₫ 75,000,000 ($2,947).

Nasa is a prominent figure in Indian poker with an impressive $511,000 in live earnings. His decorated career includes victories in the Deepstack Turbo (2018) and Superstack Turbo (2019) at WPT Vietnam. He also claimed the APT Main Event title in 2019 for $64,334 and followed that up with a win at the APPT Manila Freezeout in 2022 for $12,870. Last year, Nasa secured another significant win at 888poker LIVE in London, where he earned $49,926 in the Mini 888 No Limit Hold’em event.
