The World Series of Poker is currently running in Las Vegas, and to make it more memorable and epic, WSOP has officially opened nominations for the 2024 Poker Hall of Fame. Fans have time until June 16 to submit their favorite players on the WSOP’s PHOF nomination page.
After June 16, all submitted nominations will be reviewed by the Poker Hall of Fame’s Governing Council to ensure that the top nominees are eligible. Sometimes, the council adds one or two other deserving finalists, typically from less represented areas of the poker community, like commentator’s reporters, to the final list of 10 nominees. The late Mike Sexton, who was famous for his commentary, was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame in 2009.
The 10 finalists for this year’s Poker Hall of Fame will be announced around June 18. The voting will be handed over to the 32 living members of the PHOF, including the recent inductees.
In recent years, WSOP has inducted one nominee annually, with Brian Rast being honored in 2023, Layne Flack in 2022, Eli Elezra in 2021, and Huck Seed in 2020. The 2024 inductee will become the 63rd member of the Poker Hall of Fame.
WSOP executive director Ty Stewart commented, “With the poker world losing original participants from the 1970 WSOP over the past two years, it’s more important than ever to celebrate the history of the game.” The poker community has recently lost some of the poker legends who paved the way for future generations, including Crandell Addington and Doyle Brunson.
Ty Stewart further said, “The Poker Hall of Fame is meant to make sure legends who paved the way for today’s record-setting fields are never forgotten, and we thank poker fans for their help putting forth worthy candidates during the nomination process.”
The 2024 Poker Hall of Fame Inductee will be announced on July 14th, during the 55th annual WSOP Main Event. Prior to 2023, the Poker Hall of Fame existed solely as a virtual institution. However, this changed in 2023 with the opening of the Hall of Fame Poker Room at Horseshoe Las Vegas. This premium poker room now showcases plaques and photos of all inducted members.
