Nikita Luther on The Traitors India: The Poker Habits Behind Her Win

Nikita Luther was the first player sent home on The Traitors India and one of the two still standing at the end. The way she got there looked a lot like a patient tournament.

Nikita Luther lasted one evening at Suryagarh Palace before she was out. On arrival in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, the 20 celebrity players of The Traitors India named Elnaaz Norouzi the least trustworthy among them, and Elnaaz was given the power to remove someone on the spot. She picked Nikita. The show brought her back in episode 3. Three weeks of broadcasts later, on July 3, 2025, she and Uorfi Javed were the last two Innocents standing, and the prize pot of 70.05 lakh rupees was theirs.

For a professional poker player, an early elimination followed by a second chance is a familiar shape. It is a re-entry.

What she did with it is the more interesting part.

The poker player in the palace

Luther was born in 1991 in New Delhi, into an army family. She studied at Sanskriti School and graduated from Delhi University. She started playing poker informally around 2015 and, the same year, won the ladies event at the India Poker Championship in Goa. In 2017 she won a team event at the Macau Poker Cup with Raghav Bansal and finished fifth in the Aria Poker Classic Main Event in Las Vegas.

Her best-known result came at the 2018 World Series of Poker. Playing with Giuseppe Pantaleo, she won the $1,000 Tag Team No-Limit Hold’em event for a total prize of $175,805, split between the partners. It made her the first Indian woman to win a WSOP bracelet. She later finished 96th in the 2023 WSOP Main Event for $78,900 and 16th at EPT Barcelona in 2022, and her live tournament earnings stand at a little over $540,000 in the PokerNews database as of 2026. The Traitors, hosted in India by filmmaker Karan Johar and streamed on Prime Video, follows the format of the UK original. A few players are secretly chosen as Traitors. At night they “murder” an Innocent. Each day the group meets at a round table to vote out one suspect, who then reveals whether they were a Traitor. If the last players standing are all Innocents, they split the pot; if a Traitor survives to the end, the Traitor takes it all. It is a hidden-information game built on reading people, which is why so many viewers expected a poker player to do well.

Turning down the Traitors

The key moment of her season came in episode 5. With their numbers down to two, the Traitors were allowed to recruit an Innocent in place of a murder. They chose Nikita, and she said no.

That refusal fits a poker player’s arithmetic. Accepting would have made her one of a shrinking group in a room of suspicious players, with every vote from then on aimed at finding her. Staying Innocent meant keeping the larger team on her side and sharing the pot if the Traitors were caught. In poker terms, she declined a high-variance spot with a thin edge and kept the line that let her survive.

It also kept her information clean. By then she knew exactly who had approached her. The Traitors had shown their hand to the one player they could not afford to have doubt them.

Quiet table image

Viewers and Indian press described her game as calm and low-key, the opposite of the loudest players at the round table. Poker players will recognize the approach. At a live table, the player who talks the most gives away the most, and a tight, quiet image makes every later move more credible. If you have ever played a home game where one player keeps narrating their hands, you know how much it tells you.

The format punished noise. Over ten episodes the Innocents banished several of their own, including high-profile names, while the Traitors were picked off one at a time: Raj Kundra in the first banishment, Elnaaz in episode 7 and Purav Jha in episode 10. Harsh Gujral, an Innocent who had accepted the Traitors’ blackmail offer in episode 8 and switched sides, was the last one left.

The end game

Four players reached the end game: Nikita, Uorfi, Harsh and Sudhanshu. The rules let them end the game by unanimous vote, and any vote to continue triggered another banishment. The first vote to end it split 2-2, with Nikita and Uorfi voting to continue. The group then banished Sudhanshu, an Innocent, which put the pressure on the final three.

With three left, Nikita and Uorfi again voted against ending, and the last banishment went 2-1 against Harsh. He was revealed as a Traitor, the game ended, and the two women were declared joint winners as Innocents. On the show Uorfi told Nikita she could take all the money if she wanted, and how the pot was finally divided between them has not been made public.

There is a direct line from that last vote to tournament poker. Late in an event, with a few players left and real money at stake, the worst outcome is calling it off one decision too early. Nikita and Uorfi kept going until the evidence was in. Luther said afterward that she hoped the win would inspire more people, especially women, “to trust themselves, back their game, and never underestimate the power of a calm, clear mindset.”

Away from the cameras

Outside her own play, Luther has spent years on the business and community side of Indian poker. She has served as chief operating officer of the Poker Sports League, a team-based competition in India, worked as a brand ambassador for Natural8 India, and mentored players at major events in the country. She was already familiar with reality formats before the palace: in 2023 she appeared on GGPoker’s poker competition series Game of Gold. The social skills poker rewards, from table talk to reading a quiet opponent, are part of what makes the game interesting to watch, as the piece on the social side of poker explores.

The show moved on without her. A second season premiered on Prime Video on August 13, 2026, with a new cast of 21 players. Its winners, Krystle D’Souza and Rida Tharana, also won as Innocents, sharing a pot of 66 lakh rupees.
