Meet Abhijith Cheruku: India’s Rising Talent Shining on the Live Circuit

Abhijith Cheruku has emerged as one of India’s most promising poker talents. With a solid foundation built through online success and a seamless transition to live poker, Cheruku has proven his skill and consistency across both online and live formats.  From grinding online tournaments to capturing titles on the international stage, his journey is nothing short of inspiring with impressive cashes both live and online. 

Abhijith Cheruku’s Poker Career

Abhijith Cheruku began his poker journey in 2018, diving into the competitive world of online poker tournaments. His first recorded cash came on Adda52, where he finished in the money in the ₹5,000 buy-in Mega Suits NLH event, earning ₹24,000.

He quickly built momentum, securing a six-figure score by finishing on the podium in Spartan Poker’s Spartan Super Series ₹5,000 NLH event, banking ₹3,17,619. A few months later, he recorded a career-high  payday of ₹5,88,886 for a 3rd place finish in Spartan Poker’s Two of a Kind ₹5,000 NLH. 

Cheruku claimed his first online title a year later by winning PokerBaazi’s PPL ₹5,000 NLH event, taking home ₹4.81 lakhs. That same year, he also finished 5th in Spartan Poker’s Millionaire Lite 50 Lakhs GTD event for ₹1.5 lakhs.

In 2020, his strong online form continued with a 4th-place finish in Adda52’s The Ballers for ₹2.53 lakhs, followed by a ₹2 lakh cash in the 1 Crore GTD Full House Finale. He also won nine ₹5K Sit & Go events on Adda52 that year, earning an additional ₹90,000.

After 2020, Cheruku seems to have shifted his focus to live poker where he has been doing amazingly well. Although no significant online results have been reported after 2020 due to his focus on live poker, Cheruku has amassed lifetime online poker earnings of ₹40.43 lakhs.

Live Poker Success

After dominating the online felts, Cheruku ventured into the live tournament scene. He scored his first live cash at the Indian Poker Championship (IPC) in January 2020, finishing 11th in the Main Event for $7,242. He followed that up with a couple of scores at the WSOP online 2020.

In 2023, he participated in the World Poker Tour Cambodia, where he recorded four money finishes and earned over $5,000. The following year, he achieved his biggest live score at that time by finishing deep in the WPT Cambodia $2,000 NLH Mini High Roller, cashing for an impressive $51,197. The year 2024 saw him record at WPT events in Cambodia, Won Poker Cup, Poker Dream 11, and U Series of Poker (USOP), showcasing his strategic brilliance and consistency across various prestigious events in the Asian region. 

Recent Success and Rise To Fame

Building on his momentum, Cheruku kicked off 2025 with a cash finish in the WPT Prime Championship (Event #28) at WPT Cambodia Championship and followed that up with a 31st place finish in the APPT Cambodia Main Event (Event #40) for $ 4,724.

His breakthrough moment came recently at the Won Poker Cup III, where he clinched the $2,100 Single Day High Roller title for $17,967 and his maiden Won Poker Cup trophy. He capped off the series with a 3rd-place finish in the WPC $1,200 NLH Main Event, securing a career-best payout of $53,300.

Cheruku has accumulated an impressive $166,582 in live earnings and continues to make his mark in the live poker scene. Given his consistency throughout the year 2025 and recent big results, he is a rising star and definitely a player to watch out for this year.
