Following a full decade without a victory at the World Series of Poker (WSOP), Phil Ivey, one of the greatest poker players of all time, finally got the monkey off his back by winning the WSOP 2024 Event #29: $10,000 2-7 Triple Draw Championship to claim his 11th bracelet and $347,440 in top prize.

With the victory, the 47-year-old Poker Hall of Fame member moved into second place on the all-time leaderboard, moving ahead of Johnny Chan, Erik Seidel, and the late Doyle Brunson each having three bracelets to their names. He now trails 17-time bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth on the leaderboard.

“Winning a World Series of Poker event is always special. I’ve been playing the WSOP for 25 years, so it’s really nice to win,” Ivey told PokerGO reporters after his eleventh WSOP victory.

Interestingly, all of Ivey’s bracelets have come outside of no-limit hold’em. He won his first eight bracelets between 2000-2010. In 2013, he won his ninth bracelet with his victory in the WSOP Asia Pacific $2,200 Mixed Event. His previous bracelet came for his win in the 2014 WSOP $1,500 Eight Game Mix. With the latest victory, he is now 11-time WSOP champion, trailing only Phil Hellmth. He is currently ranked 12th on All-Time Money list and his total live earnings stand at $45,333,434.

WSOP 2024 $10,000 Limit 2-7 Triple Draw Championship Quick Recap

An impressive 149 hopefuls entered this event, creating a $1,385,700 prize pool that was shared by the top 23 finishers. Plenty of big names cashed, including two-time WSOP bracelet winner Marco Johnson (21st for $20,272), bracelet winner Jose Barbero (18th for $20,272), two-time bracelet winner Steve Zolotow (9th for $33,930), two-time bracelet winner Justin Saliba (7th for $42,625), bracelet winner Jonathan Cohen (5th for $75,015), and five-time bracelet winner Benny Glaser (4th for $104,825).

Only three players remained heading into an extra fourth day of action, with WSOP bracelet winner Danny Wong leading the way and six-time bracelet winner Jason Mercier in second chip position. Mercier slid towards bottom of chip counts and eventually hit the rail in 3rd place ($151,412)

Mercier ended up with 9x 7x 5x 3x 2x, while Wong was drawing to 8x 6x 4x 3x. Both players got up to see Wong’s last card, which turned out to be 7s to make 8-7-6-4-3 for the knockout.

Heads-up saw Wong holding 5,315,000 to 3,630,000 held by Ivey. Ivey won a big pot in the early going and  then pulled further ahead when he picked off a bluff from Wong with a pair of deuces, which were better against Wong’s paired of sixes. Wong managed to close the gap but then lost two big pots ahead.

On the final hand, Ivey raised  with J-J-6-4-3 and Wong shoved  with J-8-8-8-6. Wong drew three and made a Q-8-7-6-2. Ivey drew two and made 7-6-5-4-3. Wong drew one and improved to 10-8-7-6-2. Ivey had paired his seven after drawing one. Wong stood pat and Ivey drew one final card. The 2h on the end gave him the wheel, sealing the coveted victory for Ivey and his 11th WSOP bracelet.
