In a surprising move, the high-stakes poker pro Jason Koon has exited GGPoker, ending his role as Integrity Ambassador and leaving German poker star Fedor Holz to fill the void and take his place.
The 38-year-old Weston-born poker pro, Koon has an impressive track record with over $55,762,107 in live tournament earnings and is currently ranked 3rd on the All-Time Money List. A fixture at the Triton Poker Super High Roller Series, Koon claimed his biggest cash of $3,579,836 with a win in HK$ 1000,000 No Limit Hold’em – Short Deck in Montenegro in 2018 and then went on to cash at several Triton tournaments in London, England, and Jeju, South Korea.
Some of his key achievements include shipping the PokerGo Tour’s (PGT) Championship 2022 for $5,00,000, defeating 16-time WSOP bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth in High Stakes Duel, and winning the $50,000 No-Limit Hold’em in the Poker Masters 2022 for $6,66,000. His most recent win was in November 2023 at the Triton Super High Roller Series Monte Carlo, where he won the PLO Turbo (Event #13) for $365,000.
Koon recently took to Twitter to announce that he was no longer part of the team at GGPoker:
Koon, who joined GGPoker in 2021 as an Integrity Ambassador, saw the platform become the market leader in online poker space but he exits the site a little over a month after a superuser scandal that led to GGPoker banning a player with the username “Moneytaker69” and confiscating over $30,000 in unfair winnings.
Following that, many in the poker community wanted site ambassadors to speak up about cheating in online poker. Holz came forward and pledged to tackle the intricate challenges of maintaining site security, demonstrating GGPoker’s seriousness in prioritizing fair play and transparency.
Koon’s exit marks a turning point for GG Poker, raising questions about the circumstances that lead to his exit. While Koon gave no reason, his shocking departure tweet leaves a void in GGPoker’s robust ambassador lineup.
Taking Koon’s place is none other than the German poker sensation Fedor Holz, a dominant force in the poker world of high stakes poker with over $40 million in live earnings. Holz currently ranks 1st on Germany’s All-Time Money List. He won his maiden WSOP bracelet in 2016 for winning for $ 111,111 No Limit Hold’em High Roller for One Drop (single re-entry) (Event #67) for $ 4,981,775. He also finished 2nd in the Super High Roller Bowl for $3,500,000 that year.
In 2018, Holz placed 2nd in The Big One for One Drop (Event #78) of WSOP for $6,000,000, his biggest score till date. His most recent win was last year in July at the Triton Poker Super High Roller Series London, where he shipped the No Limit Hold’em – 7-Handed (Event #2) for $609,853.
Holz accepted the role and announced this via his Twitter handle:
With Koon’s era coming to an end, the spotlight now shifts to a new chapter for GGPoker. Holz’s influence as a top player should reinforce trust and transparency in the online poker landscape for the site. The poker community expects the German poker superstar to address fair play and security concerns.
