Best known for his iconic role as George Costanza on the hit sitcom Seinfeld, Jason Alexander has proven himself to be more than just a talented actor. Beyond the screen, Alexander has carved out a respectable niche in the poker world, playing in tournaments, supporting charitable causes, and engaging with poker communities.

While his tournament record may not boast major titles, his love for the game and philanthropic contributions through poker have made him a well-regarded figure at the tables.

Jason Alexander: Early Life and Introduction to Poker

Jason Alexander was born on September 23, 1959, in Newark, New Jersey. As a child, he was fascinated by magic and even attended a magic camp, initially dreaming of becoming a professional magician. However, he was told his hands were too small for card magic, a comment that ultimately led him to shift his focus to the theatre.

It was there that he discovered acting as a form of illusion, much like magic. This revelation led to a successful career in Hollywood. While working on Seinfeld, Alexander was introduced to poker through the show’s cast and crew, sparking a lifelong interest in the game.

Jason Alexander: Poker Career Highlights and Winnings

Though Alexander has only cashed in a handful of live tournaments over his four-decade-long poker journey, he’s made notable appearances in several prestigious events.

His first recorded live cash came in 2005 when he finished 5th at the Celebrity Poker Showdown Invitational Championship Game, earning $7,500. The following year, he returned to Bravo’s Celebrity Poker Showdown, winning eight events and earning $500,000 for charity.

In 2007, he placed 10th in the World Series of Poker’s $5,000 Ante Up for Africa Charity Main Event. Three years later, in 2010, Alexander came close to winning a WSOP Circuit ring, finishing 5th in the WSOP Circuit Atlantic City $350 NLH for $16,933.

After an eight-year gap, he made another cash in 2018 at the Parx Casino Recurring Tournaments $230 NLH Saturday, finishing 12th for $768. His most recent tournament result came in 2024, finishing 4th in the South Point Recurring Tournaments $100 NLH, earning $375.

According to his Hendon Mob profile, Jason Alexander has earned a total of $37,750 from live tournament cashes. However, Alexander is known to be an avid cash game player, often participating in high-stakes Hollywood private games, where he has reportedly earned over six figures.

He also served as a PokerStars Ambassador, promoting the game and engaging with fans. While his partnership with PokerStars has ended, Alexander is now an Ambassador for the World Series of Poker’s free-to-play app.

Jason Alexander’s Charity Work Through Poker

In an interview with ESPN, Alexander revealed that he plays poker not for fame or fortune, but for fun—and most importantly, to give back. Much of his tournament winnings and appearance fees are donated to charity.

In 2021, he took part in a virtual National Poker Tournament supporting the Children’s Tumor Foundation, raising funds for medical research. He also regularly hosts charity poker tournaments. Most recently, in March 2025, Alexander hosted his Annual Celebrity Poker Tournament benefiting the WeSpark Cancer Support Centre. The event attracted over 285 players and successfully raised more than $168,000 for the cause.
