The World Series of Poker (WSOP) Playground Main Event has concluded after an exciting five days of action, crowning its champion in James Pillon, a local favourite at the Playground Poker Club. Pillion overcame a field of 1,503, claiming his first WSOP Circuit ring and the CA$333,240 top prize. He eventually outlasted Lucas Constable in the heads-up, with the latter taking home a career-best CA$266,580.
A big shoutout to India’s Jishant Sapra who finished third for CA$170,000 (INR 1.05 Crores). Jishant, originally hailing from Delhi, is currently living in Canada and participates in all major local events. He has already two live titles to his name and this remarkable third-place finish marked his first final table finish of the year.
2024 WSOP Circuit Playground Main Event Quick Recap
The $1,700 WSOP Circuit Playground Main Event attracted 1,503 entries across three starting flights, generating a CA$1.50 Million prize pool. The top 150 finishers made the money, with min cashes starting at CA$3,500.
The final day began with 20 players and the final table was reached after the elimination of Colin Bernard falling in 10th place for CA$ 25,000. Bernard’s ace-nine failed to beat George Caragiorgas’s pocket tens.
WSOP bracelet winner Tommy Nguyen and George Lagos were the first two to exit the final table. They were followed by Fabrizio Bruno and George Caragiorgas in seventh and sixth places respectively. Bruno’s ace-king lost to pocket sixes of Lucas Constable. Caragiorgas pitted his ace-four into Jishant Sapra and lost to exit in sixth place.
The next to fall was Arnaud Bonhomme-Lemieux whose ace-nine lost against the pocket jacks of James Pillon. Up next, Pillon scored another elimination, busting Di Zhang in fourth place. In this hand, the latter’s ten-six lost to Pillion’s ten-eight.
Jishant Sapra became a force at the final table and even took a big chip lead at one point. However, his run came to an end after he ran his Jack-three into the pocket nines of James Pillon.
With three back-to-back eliminations, Pillon started the heads-up with the chip lead against Lucas Constable who won most of the hands to take the lead. Constable had a lead as large as 41 million chips to 19 million before he made a wrong call with ace-high to lose the chip lead to Pillon.
Pillon gained control from there and finally closed it out with a win. On the final hand, Pillon flopped top pair with Qh 9c on a 9d 7h 3s flop. Pillon bet and Constable called. The turn came Qd. Pillion bet, Constable jammed and Pillon called. Constable had 8d 6d. With the river 9h completing the board, Pillon won the title busting Constable in second place (CA$266,580).
