Germany’s Rene Von Reden Wins APT Taipei 2024 Main Event, Bags $453,960!

The Asian Poker Tour (APT) Taipei Poker Classic 2024 main event has crowned its champion following five days of intense battle. Germany’s Rene Von Reden clinched the APT Taipei Main Event trophy and received a massive payout of $453,960. The 25-year-old Cologne native Rene Von Reden, who is relatively new to poker, has now more than $460k in live tournament earnings.

The record-breaking APT Taipei Poker Classic 2024 Main Event attracted 1,991, surpassing the $2 million guarantee to build TWD 86,011,200 (~$2,724,460) prize pool. The massive $2.7 million was distributed among the top 295 players. The event drew participants from around the world, with several Indian players making it into the money, including Natural8 India Executive Director and ambassador Kunal Patni (264th for TWD 77,000), Saransh Garg (190th for for TWD 90,000) and Raju Jaruplavath (146th for  TWD 1,00,000). 

The final 9 returned for the final day 5 to battle it out for the title and the TWD 14,413,200 ($453,960), the largest ever top prize awarded in Taiwan. Below is the recap of the APT Taipei Poker Classic 2024 final table.

Rene Von Reden entered the final table as the second shortest stack, while Indo-Singaporean pro Dhanesh Chainai led the final table. The final table included several seasoned Asian Poker Tour players, such as two-time APT Main Event Finalist Abraham Ceesvin, three-time APT title winner Jae Wook Shin, and Superstar Challenge Champion Chih Wei Fan. 

The table short Andy Chen ultimately ended up in 9th to collect $34,196. Junichi Hashimoto soon found his way to the rail, finishing 8th for $44,798. Sio Lau Fat shoved As-J and got called by Jae Wook Shin holding pocket sevens. The board ran out 4d-Qd-6d-Qs-3h, and Jae’s pocket sevens turned out to be superior. Lau Fat finished in 7th place and banked $63,579.

Rene Von Reden knocked out Chih Wei Fan in 6th place to chip up the ladder. Chih earned $83,021 for his 6th place. Von Reden’s next victim was Dhanesh Chainai. Chainai moved all-in with Ac-8d only to meet Ad-9c of Von Rene. The board displayed 6h-Td-8c-7d-Kc, giving a straight Von Reden. Chainai banked a six-figure score of $103,580 for his 5th place.

After a long four-handed play, the final table saw Man Lok Chan exiting in 4th place for $122,700. Abraham Ceesvin ended the tournament life of Jae Wook Shin in 3rd place for $171,000. 

Ceesvin held a small lead against Von Reden in the heads-up battle. On the final hand, Abraham Ceesvin opened with Kc-6d, and Von Reden called With 9d-2d. The flop came 7d-Kd-3h, and Von Reden checked his flush draw while Ceesvin bet, and Von Reden called to complete the flush with 3d. 

Reden began setting up the trap and checked on the turn. Ceesvin who made one pair, bet, and Reden raised. Ceesvin falls into the trap and puts the last of his stack to see Qd’s river card. Abraham Ceesvin ended up taking $247,075, while Rene Von Reden walked away with the trophy and $449,070.
