As the Indian poker scene continues to flourish, the number of players joining the scene is also on the rise. While it is indeed great to see a huge number of players being interested in the game, it is even more refreshing to see the number of female players joining the scene.

More and more women in India are not only becoming aware of the game, they are also playing the game passionately and achieving remarkable results. They are rubbing shoulders with their male counterparts, and setting an example for the countless female poker players to come in the future.

One such emerging and talented female player in the Indian poker space is Arshia Mehta.

Who is Arshia Mehta?

Arshia Mehta is a 32-year-old poker enthusiast based out of New Delhi. By profession, she is a luxury florist and runs her own business, ‘Floral Street by Arshia Mehta,’ which has stores in Delhi and Jaipur. Florist by the day, Arshia Mehta finds joy in playing poker in her spare time.

Interestingly, she was a casual Teen Patti player before the poker bug stung her. It was a friend who actually introduced her to the game. She said, “I used to play (Teen Patti) in the casino or at Diwali parties. A friend of mine just put me on a table, and he said that it is very similar to Teen Patti, so you can play this. I had no knowledge. So, I was like, okay, let’s just start. At first, I was like, this is just so easy. I won in my first few games. Then, of course, I start losing. But I didn’t lose interest in the game. I thought there was something to this game that I was not able to see. This is not Teen Patti. I am just able to see it right now.”

She has now found a new passion in poker, and she refuses to turn back. She made an account on Adda52 and started grinding onto the virtual felts. Arshia Mehta is also a part of Poker Bootcamp India, which she credits heavily for teaching her more about the game.

She further revealed, “Then I started playing ₹1 games on Adda52. I started practising and watching some videos. And then a friend of mine gave me Abhishek Goindi’s number. My friend was like, this is your guy if you are really interested in the game. So, I connected with Goindi.”

Making headlines at Deltin Poker Tournament (DPT) 2024

Arshia Mehta made headlines at the recently concluded DPT 2024 edition in May held in Goa. This female player put her best foot and skills on display at the  DPT May 2024 Ladies Event.

She outshined a notable field of 21 entries. With this, she claimed her first-ever live poker title and the first-ever DPT title. Along with the title she also took home a top prize of ₹1,60,000.

In the final hand of the Lady’s event, Arshia Mehta was in the driver’s seat with the bigger stack. She moved all in with her A♠ 8 ❤ in hand. Muskaan Tandon, on the other hand, called with A ❤ 10♠ from the big blind position.

The community cards fanned out to Q ♦ 8♣ Q ❤ 3♠ 2 ♦, thus giving Arshia Mehta two pairs (QQ,88) to scoop the pot and claim the coveted DPT title.

Muskaan Tandon also put up a tough fight giving the others a serious run for their money. She settled at the runner-up spot in the tournament and pocketed a sum of ₹1,00,000 for her noteworthy performance.
