George Janssen, a Michigan poker player with four WSOP Circuit Ring victories under his belt, was allegedly kidnapped and held hostage for more than a month, according to news reports. The reason for his abduction was cited as an extortion scheme which was meant to last for about two years.
According to a news report published by PokerNews, George Janssen of Bad Axe, Michigan, was found bloodied with his hands zip-tied on a rural road in Meade Township. A passerby spotted the poker player and reported the incident to the authorities, which are apparently looking into the incident.
Janssen is a former car dealership owner and poker player with $440,763 in earnings as per Hendon Mob. He has been facing an extortion scheme for the past two years. One of his family members told reporters that Janseen was abducted by two or three people and held captive in the basement of a home in the Toledo area for 35 days before they drove him back to Hurron County on December 16.
Janssen’s family first reported him missing on November 13, according to ABC 12. A family friend finally spotted Janssen’s car and police photos show a few $50 bills lying on the floor of the car.

Janssen is one of the successful poker players from Michigan. Some of the key highlights of his career include four WSOP Circuit Ring victories, including a triumph in the WSOP Michigan Circuit Super Series Event #3 – $20,000 NLH 6-Max earlier this year for $6,281. More recently, he shipped the MSPT Venetian $1,600 Main Event in September for a career-best $82,823. A few weeks ago, he showcased his poker prowess by finishing third in the MSPT Ohio Poker State Championship for $79,861.
