The board refused to favour Negreanu’s hand and Hellmuth’s superior kicker served him the win.

Naturally, the win sparked a lot of debates and discussion on Hellmuth’s poker style. He came to be known for his impeccable intuition and emotional intelligence.

Round 2: May 2021

The second round was played the very next month in May 2021, and the Poker brat managed to defend his previous victory. He once again defeated Negreanu for the second time, to add another  $100,000 to his fortune.

The match witnessed Negreanu once again failing to close out against Hellmuth despite having an advantage at several points.

On a flop of K♠Q♦9♦Negreanu held top two pairs, however Hellmuth hit a set of nines. The turn and river later didn’t bring any help to Negreanu, and Hellmuth’s set held up. Hellmuth’s trip nines awarded him his second consecutive win in the series.

 Hellmuth’s victory further cemented his dominance in their talked about head-to-head battles. It also further field  discussions about the effectiveness of Hellmuth’s unconventional strategies.

Round 3: August 2021

Phil Hellmuth scored a hattrick by claiming victory for the third consecutive time in August 2021. With this he took home an additional $200,000, swelling up his total earnings to $400,000.

Negreanu first moved all-in pre-flop, while Hellmuth made the call. The board ran out 10♥6♠5♦9♣2♠, which didn’t improve Negreanu’s hand in any way, as Hellmuth’s pocket sevens held strong. This hand rewarded Hellmuth his third straight victory in the high-stakes duel against Daniel Negreanu with $400,000 in winnings across the three matches.

This decisive win marked Hellmuth’s hat-trick triumph over Negreanu in the “High Stakes Duel” series. The match was a close one, but Hellmuth’s timely decisions and strategic plays saved the day for him.

Following these anticipated and controversial matches, the poker community was buzzing with reactions. Hellmuth’s streak of victories earned him renewed respect for his game, despite criticisms he faced for his unorthodox methods.
