With just four days left for it to wrap up, the action at the 2024 PokerStars EPT Cyprus festival is heating up. Several big names have clinched trophies at the ongoing festival in between with the Belarussian Businessman Mikalai Vaskaboinikau and 2024 WSOP Main Event FT Bubble Boy Diogo Coelho being among the latest winners at the series.

Belarus’ Mikalai Vaskaboinikau Wins European Poker Tour Cyprus $50,000 High Roller

Following his epic win in the Triton Poker Super High Roller Series Montenegro main event this year, which earned him a career-best score of $ 4,737,000, Mikalai Vaskaboinikau is back in headlines. He overcame a star-studded field of 47 entries and bested Artur Martirosian in heads-up to win the  2024 European Poker Tour (EPT) Cyprus $50K high roller for $601,397, the second largest score of his career. This is his second live title of 2024 and it has boosted his live tournament earnings to more than $9.3 million.

This tournament ran over the course of three days inside the Merit Royal Diamond Hotel Casino & Spa. The money bubble burst on Day 2, with Thomas Eychenne losing it with pocket queens against the A-K of two-time bracelet winner Artur Martirosian and leaving the remaining players locked up at least $159,600 in this event.

Four-time bracelet winner and EPT champion Adrian Mateos was the chip leader among the returning final six, while Vaskaboinikau started as one of the three short stacks with over ten big blinds.

Canada’s Jamil Wakil was too short when he shoved pocket deuces. He ended up losing to the flush of Alexander Zubov, who held 7s 5s. The Canadian earned an impressive $159,600 for his sixth-place finish.

Despite scoring that knockout, Zubov was the next player to fall. He first lost it with A-J against the A-Q suited of Vaskaboinikau and then moved all-in with J-4 against the pocket fives of Mateos. The pocket fives improved to a set by the turn and Zubov was eliminated in fifth place ($205,200).

A few hands later, Roman Hrabec , who began the final table second in chips, shoved his A-10 against the pocket eights of Vaskaboinikau. The Czech WSOP champion failed to connect with a low double-paired board and was eliminated in fourth place ($262,200). The final three players agree to a deal, redistributing the remaining prize money while leaving $59,277 to play for up top.

The first to fall among the final three was none other than the Spanish super star Mateos, who became short-stacked after the deal. He eventually ran his As 3h into Ac Kh  of Vaskaboinikau. The board helped neither player and Mateos was eliminated in third place. He took home $555,758 for his 19th final table finish of 2024. The latest score took his live earnings to more than $50.5 million.

The heads-up battle saw Vaskaboinikau holding 6,420,000 over Martirosian’s 5,330,000 stack. In one of the pivotal hands of the match, Martirosian shoved his As Ac leading the Ad 4d  of Vaskaboinikau, but the board came with three diamonds to give Vaskaboinikau the ace-high flush. After that hand, Martirosian was left short and he soon got it in with Ac 2d against the pocket fours of Vaskaboinikau.

The board ran Js 3s 2d 6s 9d where pocket fours remained ahead, busting Marirosian in second place. Marirosian took home $495,815 for his efforts and now has nearly $18.3 million in live earnings.

Portugal’s Diogo Coelho Wins EPT Cyprus’ $2,200 Eureka High Roller ($357,048)

Another big event to crown a champion was the $2,200 Eureka High Roller at the 2024 PokerStars European Poker Tour Cyprus where Diogo Coelho from Portugal conquered a field of 1,374 entries, claiming $357,048 from the $2,610,600 total prize pool. This was his second EPT trophy. His first trophy came just last year for his victory in the $10,300 High Roller at the inaugural EPT Paris.

Following over 16-hour of play on Day 2, four players returned to Merit Royal Diamond Hotel Casino & Spa for an unscheduled Day 3 of the $2,200 Eureka High Roller. Lebanon’s Ghassan was the shortest stack of the four. Just after ten minutes of his arrival, he got it with As 7s against Ac Js of Guerrini and could not improve, being the first exit of the day. He took home $144,160 for his deep run.

Mukhtor Nasiradinov got shorter and eventually fell in third place ($187,410) when he open-jammed with Kh 8h against Guerrini’s pocket fours on the jack-seven-six-two-ace board. Guerrini started the heads up with a massive lead over Coelho. However, Coelho won a couple of small pots in a row to close the gap and eventually gain a slight chip lead.

Later, Coelho and Guerrini then discussed the deal. They finally agreed to chop the prize pool in proportion to their chips but left $20,000 to play for heads-up, along with the trophy and bragging rights. The game resumed and Coelho kept winning pots and pushed Guerrini down to just 15 big blinds.

On the final hand, Coelho open-shoved with Ah 7c and Guerrini called with Kd 8h. Coelho’s ace-seven was ahead, and he flopped an ace and held from there, sealing the coveted victory and leaving Guerrini with the runner-up prize worth $328,592. Coelho looked pretty happy after the win. He proudly received his trophy, clicked some photos, and then collected his massive payout of $357,048.
