Chris Johnson Wins his Second GUKPT Main Event Title
Chris Johnson has secured his second Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) Main Event victory. He initially won the GUKPT Leeds Main Event in September 2022, claiming a career-best of £73,070. After two years in May 2024, Johnson emerged as the winner of the GUKPT Luton Main Event, adding £48,570 to his live winnings, which now exceed $750,000.
The GUKPT Luton Main Event, with a buy-in of £1,250, attracted 212 players, which generated a prize pool of £218,870. The prize was distributed among the top 29 players.
Despite reigning champion Stuart Rutter’s presence, who had become a two-time GUKPT champion at the same stop in 2023, he could not defend his title and finished in 23rd place Let’s take a look at the final table action.

In the heads-up battle, Allen needed some luck to catch up to Johnson, but it never arrived. On a crucial hand, Allen went all-in with his remaining chips with King Four, but it couldn’t withstand Johnson’s queen Jack. Despite being the 2013 GUKPT Grand Final champion and finishing 3rd in the same event in 2013, Allen settled for 2nd place this time.

7 – Damir Gabdullin – $14,300
8 – David Boyaciyan – $11,300
Aleksey Savenkov entered the final table as chip lead and showed dominance throughout the entire final table. He single-handedly eliminated 6 players from the final table like David Boyaciyan (8th place – $11,300), Damir Gabdullin (7th place – $14,300), Ebrahim Ehghaghi (6th place – $17,100), Vadzim Godzdanker (4th place – $28,400), Konstantin Generalov (3rd place – $41,200), and the runner-up Kirill Burtin (2nd place – $57,800).
Lady luck was with Aleksey Savenkov, and no one could have beaten Savenkov. In the heads-up battle, Burtin tried to give a tough competition but became short-stacked after a costly bluff against Savenkov’s trip eights.
Burtin couldn’t recover from that hit but kept up the fight until all the chips were at stake before the flop. He had an upper hand with an ace-high hand. But, Savenkov’s king-queen-suited hand was able to outlast as the flop revealed a full house in Savenkov’s favor.
