If we were to ask poker players what a poker life looks like we’d be overwhelmed with a variety of lifestyles and stories of sheer passion. However, poker pro and coach Abhishek Goindi recently described the complex life of a poker player in three simple sentences, and they speak volumes.
Goindi’s description of the life of a poker player sums up the mental preparation and challenge that poker requires. The poker coach recently shared a tweet on X (formerly Twitter) which read, “Made every great decision and played a great hand. Lost. On to the next good hand. The life of a poker player.”
He then shared a screenshot of the same on Instagram, accompanied by a caption that focuses on the importance of making the right decisions, patiently accepting losses if the decision goes wrong, and moving to make the next decision with a sane mind. The pro underlines the need for emotional and mental control in every hand that one plays at the poker table.
“The life of a poker player! Poker is a game where we want to keep focussing on making the right decisions over and over again irrespective of the outcome!” he says. He adds, “People think winning poker players never lose a hand or never get unlucky, however, it’s a game where one can make the most informed decision/best decision and yet find themselves on the losing side!”
He also mentions how poker is “a beautiful game of controllables and uncontrollables!” Abhishek then reiterates the crucial skills that a poker player must posses saying, “Focus on the controllables such as Mindset, Bankroll management, Game selection, studying and practicing correctly, surrounding yourself with the right people and community & you will see how successful you will become in this game!”
Interestingly, the poker pro also shared his last year’s New Year resolution saying “New Year, same resolution.” The post read, “Poker is a game that can teach you a lot of skills that B-Schools might teach you as well such as fund management, data analysis, patience, grit, determination, psychology! I wish each one’s New Year resolution is to start playin poker as a hobby to understand it’s benefits!#HNY” (sic)
Meanwhile, the PokerBaazi Team Pro has already begun his year on a winning note. He posted a series of videos, wherein he is seen playing a 20-player Sit’n’Go (SnG) in a private local set-up. “20 players sit n go! First win for the year! A win is a win!😁 So much fun to be,” he wrote.
It will be worth seeing how the upcoming year turns out to be for the Poker Boot Camp India founder. In 2023, the poker pro recorded three cashes at the World Series of Poker 2023, and one at the WPT Cambodia held in Phnom Penh. The Goa resident ranks 32nd on India’s All-time Money List.
