2023 has been a break-out year for Ren Lin with nine of his ten largest poker tournament scores coming this year. His most recent and also his biggest came recently when he won the 2023 WPT Alpha8 at Wynn Las Vegas $50,000 buy-in high roller event for a career-best $1,045,781 payday.
The Chinese pro bested an elite field of 69 players at Wynn Las Vegas on Thursday to lock up his first seven-figure sore and his third title of the year. He eventually beat Jason Koon in the heads-up. He was one of nine players who cashed in this high-roller event from the total $3,346,500 prize pool.
After a short-stacked Alex Foxen was knocked out by Lin on the final table bubble, Justin Bonomo (9th -$108,761) was the first causality from the final table. He was followed saac Haxton (8th – $125,494). Eliminations continued and it finally came to the heads-up play for the title between Lin and Koon.
Heads-Up
The heads-up battle began with Lin holding 7,425,000 to Koon’s 6,375,000. Following some twists and turns, Lin remained ahead when the final hand came. Koon shoved for 2,350,000 on the button with Jd 9c and Lin called with As 2h. The board brought Qc 2s7h 10d, giving a pair of deuces for Lin to win it. Koon cashed for $669,300 as the runner-up and this marked his 18th final table finish of the year.
