Day 5 of the Deltin Poker Tournament (DPT) Grand saw electrifying battles at the Deltin Royale casino in Goa. Gagandeep Malik emerged as the champion of the Pot-Limit Omaha 5 Bounty event, securing his third DPT title and taking home ₹2.90 Lakhs in prize money.
This victory marked Malik’s third DPT title. He claimed his first DPT title in the 2016 DPT High Roller, followed by a second win in the 2017 DPT NLH Bounty. He then shipped the 2023 WPT India High Roller. He is now a proud third-time DPT winner following his last night’s victory in the DPT PLO 5 Bounty at the ongoing DPT Grand 2024 Edition in Goa.
The ₹25K buy-in PLO 5 Bounty event drew a modest field of 64 entries, including many big names from Indian poker. Among them were NLH Bounty Champion Ritwik Khanna, Nitesh Balyan, Vineet Kumar, and Ranjeet Negi – all falling short of reaching the final table.
This event generated over ₹14 Lakhs in prize pool with ₹6.40 Lakhs going into the bounty pool. The prize pool was eventually shared by the top 9 finishers with Gagandeep Malik and Naveen Kumar taking home the lion’s share of the prize pool, following an ICM heads-up chop.
Gagandeep Malik entered the final table with a middling stack but played some top-notch poker to chip up and enter the heads-up with the chip lead. He eliminated several players from the final table on his way to victory, including Sumukh K. (4th place – ₹78,984) and Piyush Baid (3rd place – ₹98,854).
Malik entered the heads-up round with a substantial 789k chip lead against the DPT May 2024 Micro Main Event champion Naveen Kumar.
The final two players agreed to an ICM chop deal, distributing the remaining prize money based on their chip counts. Gagandeep Malik took home ₹2.00 Lakhs plus ₹90K in bounties, while Naveen Kumar, who held a 490k stack, pocketed ₹1.71 Lakhs along with ₹90K in bounties.
