Over the past few months, the live poker scene has seen a significant rise in women’s participation across major live events. This growing trend continues and is also evident at the ongoing APT Taipei Poker Classic 2024, which began on September 27 and will run until October 7. The 11-day poker festival, featuring an impressive 108 trophy events and over TWD 150 million (~USD 4.6 million) in prize pool guarantees, is a hub of excitement for all players, including women competitors.

The ongoing series running at the Asia Poker Arena and the CML (Chinese Mahjong League) in central Taipei recently concluded the first of three women’s events on the schedule –  Event #4: Women’s Event, which saw an impressive 129 entries and found a winner in Japan’s Sachiko Uchihara who took home the title and TWD 49,744 (~USD 1,574) in top prize money.

This was her career’s first live title and second best score of 2024, following the $1,562, which she earned for her runner-up finish in Poker Queen (Event #21) at the 16th Taiwan Millions Tournament (TMT) earlier this year.
