2024 Poker Masters Event #6: $15,100 No-Limit Hold’em Recap
This event ran over the course of two days and generated a massive $1,260,000, which was finally shared by the top 12 finishers. Daniel Weinand exited as the unfortunate bubble boy and he was followed by Dan Smith (12th), Jesse Lonis (11th), Filipp Khavin (10th), David Coleman (9th) and Michael Jozoff (8th for $50,400 – all exiting on Day 1.
Jozoff was the last player to exit on Day 1, leaving the remaining seven players to return for the live-streamed final table on Day 2 this Tuesday. He got it in with pocket eights, which did not hold up against Collopy’s ace-ten.
Haxton, the 2023 PGT Player of the Year, held the chip lead into the seven-handed final table with Dylan Linde and Collopy starting the final table with second and third in chips, respectively.
Nick Schulman was the first to exit the final table. Schulman shoved his ace-nine of diamonds and was called by Dylan Linde with pocket eights. Schulman hit flush but Linde rivered a full house, busting Schulman in seventh place ($50,400).
Despite scoring the elimination, Linde later became short stack after clashing in a massive pot with Jeremy Becker. Linde finally shoved with ten-six offsuit and failed to improve against Collopy’s queen-seven of spades to exit the tournament in sixth place ($63,000).
Later, Sean Winter (5th – $88,200), and Aram Zobian (4th – $119,700) exited from the final table, setting up the three-handed play involving big crushers— Becker, Haxton, and Collopy. Zobian, a clear short stack, got it in preflop with ace-king offsuit against the ace-king of clubs of Becker, who hit the flush on the turn, ending Zobian’s run in fourth place.
The three-handed play saw Becker with nearly a 2-1 chip advantage over his final opponents. Becker, who had won the second event of the series just a few days back, was looking for his second title of the series, but a bluff against Collopy left him even with Haxton. Becker raised preflop, and then check-jammed queen-three offsuit on a K-4-2-5 board after betting 225,000 on the flop and getting called. Collopy looked him up with the top pair. The 7s fell on the river, sending the massive pot to Collopy.
A little later, Haxton shoved it with the covering stack and Becker called. Becker was in great shape with Ad 6d against Haxton’s 10s 6s. However, the board ran out Qs 2s Kh 7c 9s, giving Haxton a flush to win the pot and bust Becker in third place. Becker earned $163,800 – his second six figure score of the series.
Heads- Up For Title
It was a long heads-up battle between Haxton and Collopy with the chip lead exchanging multiple times. Collopy held a slight chip advantage at the start but Haxton quickly chipped up to pull ahead. Collopy fought his way back and snatched the chip lead again, turning a flush against the two pairs of Haxton.
Much like Collopy, Haxton battled his way back into the chip lead and finally closed it out with victory. On the final hand, Haxton made a full house with 6d 2c to Collopy’s 10s 9s, securing him the trophy and the $352,800 prize money. Collopy had to settle in second place for the $226,800 consolation prize.
