Top female pro Kristen Foxen narrowly missed making history at the 55th Annual World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event in Las Vegas. A fan-favourite for winning this year’s Main Event, Foxen had her sights set on becoming the second woman to reach the final table of the $10,000 buy-in NLHE World Championship, but she got eliminated in 13th place, earning an impressive $600k.
Kristen Foxen’s Bold River Move Ends Her Dream Run
Foxen entered Day 8 in the middle of the pack but took the Chip lead for some time. It didn’t last longer after she lost some of her stack in a Multi-way pot against Joe Serock, Brian Kim, and Niklas Astedt. She again lost her stack against Short-stacked Diogo Coelho.
In her final hand of the tournament, Joe Serock opened from under the gun with A♤-K♧, and Foxen called it with K♤-Q◇. The board came out A♡-K♡-J♤, giving Serock the top two pairs. Serock bet 4 Million, Foxen thought for a second and called the bet. The turn card was 5♤, and Serock bet 11.6 Million. Foxen took 3 minutes before putting all her Chip stacks on the line, hoping for a 10 to hit a straight to save her day. The river card was 6♡, ending Foxen’s deep run in the tournament. She walked away with $600,000 for a remarkable deep run in the main event. This marked her best score and overall tenth cash at the ongoing WSOP 2024.
On Day 7, Foxen went all-in with A♤-5♤ against Moura’s Q◇-Q♧, but the river card A saved her. She did the same for this hand, but this time the river did not help, ending her dream run in 13th place. The four-time bracelet winner Foxen fell short of becoming the second woman to reach the final table of WSOP Main Event After Barbara Enright who had finished in 5th place in 1995’s WSOP Main Event.
WSOP 2024 Main Event Final Table Players and Chip Counts
The record-breaking 2024 WSOP Main Event is now close to crowning its champion with just 9 players from the original 10,112-player field remaining. Each of the remaining competitors secures a minimum of $1,000,000, but all will be aiming for the massive $10,000,000 first-place prize and stunning new main event bracelet.
Leading the remaining 9 players in the main event is Illinois native Jordan Griff, who had just $47,192 in live earnings heading into poker’s biggest event and has now locked up at least $1,000,000. Griff was all in on the first hand of the day against a flopped set but managed to river a bigger set to chip up. Griff will have to face a tough competition with two of poker’s most accomplished players, American high roller regular Brian Kim and Swedish online poker legend Niklas Astedt still in contention. Both of them bagged impressive stacks with over 50 big blinds.
