WSOP Main Event 2024: Defending World Champion On Day 3, Goyal Leads Indians

Day 42 of the 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) saw a historic Day 2d of the Main Event, breaking several records in terms of the turnout and prize pool.

On this historic day, the Main Event confirmed 10,112 players, surpassing last year’s 10,043 entrants that generated  $94 million, the largest in poker history. WSOP visionary Jack Binion unveiled the stunning new 2024 WSOP Main Event bracelet, adorned with 2,253 precious gems and a removable golden faceplate that can also be used as a card protector.

With a top prize of $10 million for the eventual champion and payouts for 1,517 places starting at $15,000, Canadian player Alex Livingston leads the combined field of 3,262 after the conclusion of both Day 2s with 750,500 chips. Livingston, who finished third in the 2019 WSOP Main Event and has already won a WSOP bracelet in the $1,500 Seven Card Stud event, is looking to capture the coveted world championship title and the $10 million top prize. He is followed closely by Tyler Hatchel (679,000) and Donovan Dean (634,500) in second and third places.

Among the big names advancing to Day 3 include the likes of five-time WSOP bracelet winner Adam Friedman (581,000), high roller and PokerGO regular Aram Zobian (401,500), WSOP Circuit crusher Ari Engel (334,500), 11-time WSOP bracelet winner Phil Ivey (283,500), 2023 Poker Hall of Fame inductee Brian Rast (229,000).

Also in contention is the reigning champion Daniel Weinman (229,500) who will be looking to defend his title and clinch the coveted top prize and stunning bracelet. Weinman had defeated a field of 10, 043 entries in the last year’s main event for $12,100,000 , which remains the biggest first-place prize in the main event

Many Indians Advance to Day 3 of WSOP 2024 Main Event

Day 2d saw many Indian players advance to Day 3 with former DPT champion Tarun Goyal (496K) leading them in chips. He was followed by Rahul Melwani (475K), Kavin Shah  (385K), Adda52 Game Ambassador Arun Sriram (243K), Siddarth Singhvi (200.5K), Sreekanth Narayan  (148.5K), Zarvan Tumboli  (133K), Kunal Punjwani (102.5K), Sriharsha Doddapaneni (70K) & Akshay Bharadwaj (54K).

From Day 2ABC, Santhosh Suvarna (91,500) and Deepankur Gupta (91,000) also moved forward. They all will be eyeing the new championship bracelet and the  $10M top prize!

Play for Day 3 will resume at Level 11, with blinds at 1,000/2,500 and a 2,500 big blind ante. The 2,068 survivors from Day 2d will combine with the 1,549 survivors from Day 2ABC for the first time in this tournament. Levels will last two hours each, with a dinner break scheduled after Level 13.

Several Indians Advance to Day 2 in Event #84: $600 Ultra Stack NLH

Another highlight on Day 42 of the WSOP 2024 was Event #84: $600 Ultra Stack NLHE. The second and final flight (Day 1B) of the event saw 4,030 entrants, with only 504 of them advancing to Day 2. Rohit Hukmani led the pack with 4.125M chips. Team India saw Vinay Patel (800K), Rajesh Goyal (570K), Yudhishter Jaswal (485K), and Raja Puttamsetty (370K) bagging respectable stacks to qualify for Day 2. They will join fellow Indian qualifiers (Day 1A) Avneesh Munjal (970K) and Muskan Sethi (185K) on Day 2.
